Musketeers fall in overtime in the NIT Second Round
AUSTIN, Texas - Junior Tyrique Jones posted a career-high 22 points as Xavier battled into overtime at Texas, but the Musketeers fell just short, 78-76, of taking the win in the NIT Second Round on Sunday afternoon.
Jones led four Musketeers in double figures as Xavier finishes the season at 19-16 overall after posting a 9-9 record in BIG EAST play.

FIRST HALF |
- After Texas took the opening points, the teams traded leads for the first eight minutes, with Naji Marshall scoring five early points. Tyrique Jones adding four early.
- UT and XU traded five-point runs, with neither team leading by more than four points in the first 18 minutes of the half.
- An 8-2 run by Texas in the final minutes of the half gave the Longhorns an eight point lead going into the final seconds, before a Quentin Goodin basket at the buzzer set the halftime score at 38-32.
- Naji Marshall led the Musketeers with 10 points in the first half.
- Tyrique Jones added eight on 4-of-4 shooting from the floor.
- Xavier owned a 15-13 advantage on the boards led by five for Zach Hankins.
- The Musketeers shot just under 52 percent from the floor in the first half, but shot 2-of-8 from three, while Texas shot 48 percent from the floor, but 4-of-10 on three.
- Xavier had nine first half turnovers compared to five for Texas, allowing the Longhorns to outscore the Musketeers 16-2 on points off turnovers.

- A 7-0 run to open the half gave the Musketeers to 39-38 lead in the first two minutes of the half.
- The 7-0 run fueled a three-minute stretch where Xavier outscored Texas 13-3 to extend the lead out to four, 47-46.
- Texas responded with a 7-0 run of its own to retake the lead, 50-47, with 12 minutes to play.
- UT outscored Xavier 17-4 over a six minute stretch to extend the lead to as many as nine, 60-51, with seven minutes to play.
- The Musketeers responded with a 14-5 stretch, tying the game at 65-65 in the final three minutes of the game.
- XU and UT traded baskets over the final three minutes, going into the final seconds with Texas ahead one, 70-69. Quentin Goodin hit one of two free throws with two seconds on the clock to sent the game to OT.
- Tyrique Jones had 11 points on 5-of-6 shooting in the second half.
- Quentin Goodin added 10 points on 3-of-4 shooting from the floor.
- UT held a 21-18 advantage on the boards in the second half. Jones led the Musketeers with six boards. Xavier had just five offensive rebounds to eight for Texas, but outscored the Longhorns, 7-1 on second-chance points.
- Xavier shot 53.6 percent from the floor, but connected on 3-of-8 from outside, while the Longhorns shot 38.7 percent, but shot 6-of-11 from outside. Xavier owned a 24-10 advantage on points in the paint.

- Xavier took the early lead in the OT period, and the two teams traded one point leads until a Texas three gave the long horns a 75-73 advantage with 3:30 to play.
- Texas' lead grew to as many as four, 77-73, before a Paul Scruggs layup and Tyrique Jones free throw pulled the Musketeers to within one, but a Texas free throw set the final score at 78-76.

- Tyrique Jones' 22 points on 10-of-12 shooting from the floor led all scorers, and set a new career high for the junior, topping his previous career-high of 21 set twice this season. Jones also had a game-high 11 rebounds four his fourth double-double of teh season.
- Naji Marshall finished with 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
- Quentin Goodin had 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting, including 2-of-3 from outside. Goodin also dished out five assists.
- Zach Hankins finished with 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the floor.
- Xavier shot 50 percent from the floor to 41 percent for Texas, but shot 5-of-17 from outside to UT's 11-of-23. Xavier owned a 50-24 advantage on points in the paint.
- Both teams grabbed 39 boards.
