NEW YORK - Lane Flamm and Conor Grammes were each honored on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday following an impressive 4-0 week by the Xavier baseball team, which included a win over No. 8 Louisville last Tuesday.
Flamm, a freshman, picked up his first career win and save last week and played a massive role in XU's road victory against the Cardinals. The Cincinnati native logged eight innings of relief in two appearances overall, recording a 1.12 ERA while striking out seven.
Against No. 8 Louisville, Flamm logged a season-high 5.2 innings of relief and pitched into the 10th inning of XU's eventual 5-4 win. He held the Cardinals to one run and three hits, while fanning four and earning his first collegiate win.Â
He was called on again Sunday and shut the door as XU won 4-2 to complete a sweep over Lipscomb. In the outing, he pitched 2.1 innings, striking out three and allowing just one hit to earn his first career save.
Grammes, a junior, tossed six innings of shutout baseball in a sweep-clinching 4-2 win over Lipscomb on Sunday. It was his first win of the season as he held the Bison to two hits and struck out five.
One of the top two-way players in the league, Grammes also hit .250 with a home run, three runs scored and three RBI in four starts at DH during the week. He went 2-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI against No. 8 Louisville on Tuesday and added a solo homer in Saturday's 10-1 win over Lipscomb. While pitching in the finale, he went 1-for-4 with a run scored as XU took the game by a 4-2 score.
Xavier returns to action at Arizona State this weekend with a three-game series set to begin at 9:30 p.m. ET on Friday.
