CINCINNATI - Xavier standouts Samantha Dewey (women's soccer) and Mikayla Fitzpatrick (golf) were tabbed the most outstanding performers in their respective sports by the Cincinnati Women's Sports Association (CWSA) on Saturday afternoon. The annual awards banquet was hosted in the Champions Club at the newly renovated Fifth Third Arena on the campus of the University of Cincinnati.
Senior volleyball player McKena Estes was also named the 'Inspirational Sportswoman of the Year' for her community service. The Indianapolis, Ind., native wrapped up her career last fall with 2,118 assists, 642 digs and 68 aces. The setter played in 110 matches over her four-year career.
Dewey was named the 'Collegiate Player of the Year in Soccer' after helping the Musketeers to a 10-8-3 overall record last season. The 2018 season marked the first winning record for the Musketeers since 2013 and the most wins for the program since 2003's 12-win season. The Fairland, Ind., native was also named the BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year after collecting a team-high 25 points (9 goals, seven assists). Four of her goals were game-winners this season.Â
Fitzpatrick recently led the Xavier women's golf team to its first conference title in program history. The junior golfer also captured the individual title at the BIG EAST Championships and was tabbed the BIG EAST Golfer of the Year.
Fitzpatrick was named 'Collegiate Player of the Year in Golf' for the second time in as many years at the CWSA Banquet.
The Phoenix, Ariz., native finished tied for sixth at the NCAA East Lansing Regional. Her finish earned her an individual qualifying spot at the NCAA Championships on May 17-22 in Fayetteville, Ark., becoming the first golfer in program history to compete at the NCAA Championships.Â
