Women's Soccer Releases Fall 2019 Schedule

CINCINNATI - Xavier women's soccer announced it's 19-game schedule for the Fall of 2019. The Musketeers open up play on Thursday, August 22 at Murray State, and open up the home schedule on Sunday, August 25 against Bowling Green.

SCHEDULE NOTES |
- The Musketeers will play a 10-game non-conference schedule prior to the nine-game BIG EAST slate.
- The Musketeers open the season on the road at Murray State on Thursday, Aug. 22, the first of 12 road games, including four BIG EAST road matches.
- Xavier opens the home schedule on Sunday, August 25 against Bowling Green. Xavier will host seven games, including four BIG EAST matches, at XU Soccer Complex.
- Xavier will play opponents from seven conferences prior to BIG EAST play, including four MAC opponents, as well as teams from the American, A10, Atlantic 10, Horizon, OVC and SEC.
- Xavier's opponents combined for 176 wins last season. Four of Xavier's opponents made NCAA Championship appearances, including College Cup participant Georgetown.

2019 MUSKETEERS |
- Xavier finished the 2018 season at 10-8-3, a .548 winning percentage, marking the first winning record for the Musketeers since 2013. Xavier's 10 wins in 2018 are the most for the program since 2003's 12-win season.
- The Musketeers finished a program-best fourth in the BIG EAST standings, hosting a BIG EAST Championship match for the first time since joining the conference and advancing in the postseason for the first time since 2003.
- Xavier's 0-0 draw against No. 4 Georgetown to close out the regular season on Oct. 25, 2018 was the first result against a top-five team in program history.
- Xavier's defense forced its ninth shutout of the season in the regular season match against Georgetown, the most since 2000's school-record 11 shutouts. The Musketeers ranked third in the BIG EAST for shutouts. Nine shutouts stand as the second most in a single season in program history, matching 1985 and 1991's season totals.
- Xavier 2018 finished the season with 31 goals, the most since 2006's 31-goal season. The Musketeers return 87 percent of their scoring, including BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year Samantha Dewey, who finished with 25 points on nine goals and seven assists.

at Murray State (Ohio Valley)

Cutchin Field | Murray, Ky.
- The Racers finished 2018 at 13-5-1 overall and 7-3-0 in OVC regular season play
- Murray State topped Eastern Illinois and UT Martin to win the OVC Soccer Championship for a second-straight year and to earn a spot in the NCAA Tournament, the program's fourth bid to the NCAA Tournament.
- Murray State fell to No. 13 Vanderbilt in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
- The Racers return All-OVC honorees Miyah Watford (First Team), Abby Jones (Second Team; Freshman of the Year and All-Newcomers), Karsyn Hasch (Second Team) and Rebecca Kubin (Second Team).
- Murray State loses a five-person senior class that includes goalkeeper Alex Steingerwald, who was named MVP of the OVC Tournament.
- This will be the first match-up between the two programs.
Bowling Green (MAC)
Sunday, Aug. 25 | 1:00 PM
XU Soccer Complex | Cincinnati, Ohio
- The Falcons went 14-5-3 last season, including a 10-1-0 mark in MAC play.
- Bowling Green topped Eastern Michigan and Ohio in the MAC Tournament to earn a spot in the MAC Championship, where the Falcons advanced on PKs over Ball State.
- Bowling Green faced No. 14 Penn State in the NCAA Tournament, falling 4-1
- The Falcons return three First Team All-MAC selections, Maureen Kennedy, who was also MAC Defensive Player of the Year, as well as Chelsee Washington and Kathleen Duwve. BGSU also returns MAC All-Freshman Honoree Sarah Allen. Head coach Matt Fannon was named MAC Coach of the Year for a second-straight season.
- BGSU lost seven seniors, including two-time MAC Offensive Player of the Year Erica Hubert and MAC First Team Honoree Morgan Abbitt.
- Xavier is 2-2-0 all-time against BGSU, including last season's 1-0 win in double overtime in Bowling Green.

Dayton (A10)

XU Soccer Complex | Cincinnati, Ohio
- Dayton finished 2018 at 8-9-2, with a 4-5-1 mark in the Atlantic 10, falling in the A10 Quarterfinals against Saint Louis to close out the season.
- UD returns Izzy Greene, an Atlantic c10 All-Rookie Team honoree from 2018.
- The Flyers lose All-Conference defender Nadia Pestell to graduation.
- Xavier is 11-26-2 all-time against the Flyers, including last season's 2-0 win in Dayton.

at Mizzou (SEC)
Sunday, Sept. 1 | 1:00 PM
Audrey J. Walton Soccer Stadium | Columbia, Mo.
- Missouri went 6-11-2 overall last season, and 3-6-1 in SEC play, falling in the SEC Tournament to LSU, 3-2, in overtime to end the season.
- The Tigers return First Team All-SEC honoree Sarah Luebbert at forward, and All-Rookie forward Julissa Cisneros.
- Mizzou loses Second Team All-SEC goalkeeper Kelsey Dossey to graduation.
- This will be the first match-up between the two programs.

at Kent State (MAC)
Friday, Sept. 6 | TBD
Zoeller Field | Kent, Ohio
- Kent State finished last season at 10-8-2 overall and 6-4-1 in MAC play. The Golden Flashes finished the season with a 2-1 loss to Ohio in the MAC Tournament.
- Kent State returns All-MAC First Team midfielder Vital Kats and Second Team honoree Maddie Holmes. All-Freshman goalkeeper Faith O'Neill also returns for the Golden Flashes.
- The Golden Flashes lost First Team All-MAC defender Paige Culver to graduation.
- Xavier is 0-0-1 all-time against the Golden Flashes, last playing them in 2017 to a 1-1 tie through double overtime.
at Akron (MAC)

FirstEnergy Stadium | Akron, Ohio
- Akron finished 2018 at 8-10-2 overall and 5-5-1 in MAC play. The Zips closed out the season with a 1-0 loss to Western Michigan in the MAC Tournament.
- The Zips return Second Team All-MAC honoree Ashley Amato and All-Freshman Team honorees Carly Pcholinksy and Sydney Worthy.
- Xavier is 1-0 all-time against the Zips, beginning the series last season with a a 3-0 win in Cincinnati.
Northern Kentucky (Horizon)

XU Soccer Complex | Cincinnati, Ohio
- The Norse finished 2018 at 10-6-1 overall and 6-2-1 in Horizon League play, falling to Oakland in the Horizon League tournament.
- NKU returns Horizon All-Freshman honoree Lily Menssen, and loses three First Team All-Conference selections in seniors Samantha Duwel, Taylor Spaulding and Shawna Zaken.
- Xavier is 4-1-1 all-time against the Norse, falling to NKU for the first time last season on a goal in the final 15 seconds of regulation.

at Cincinnati (American)

- The Bearcats finished 2018 at 6-9-3 overall and 1-6-2 in American Athletic Conference.
- UC returns All-AAC Rookie Team selection Vanessa DiNardo, a forward. The Bearcats lose a Second Team All-AAC forward Jill Vetere to graduation.
- Xavier is 6-23-1 against Cincinnati, with the last match-up between the two programs coming in 2015, a 0-0 draw through double overtime. This marks the first match-up between the two programs since Nate Lie took over as head coach at Xavier. Lie previously served as associate head coach at UC.

at Miami (Ohio) (MAC)

Miami Soccer Field | Oxford, Ohio
- The RedHawks finished 2018 at 3-14-1 overall and 1-10-1 in MAC play.
- Miami returns MAC All-Freshman Team selection in forward/midfielder Lyda Bogdanovitch.
- Xavier is 4-6-2 all-time against Miami, including last season's 2-0 win over the RedHawks.

at Lipscomb (ASUN)
Sunday, Sept. 22 | 1:00 PM
Lipscomb Soccer Complex | Nashville, Tenn.
- Lipscomb finished 2018 at 15-5-2 overall and 7-1-0 in ASUN play, winning the league regular season title. As the No. 1 seed, Lipscomb topped Florida Gulf Coast and North Alabama in the ASUN Championship to earn an automatic berth to the NCAA Championship.
- In NCAA Tournament plan, the Bisons topped Mississippi State, 1-0, in the first round to advance to play No. 9 Duke. Lipscomb fell, 3-0, to Duke.
- The Bisons return ASUN Player of the Year Olivia Doak, as well as the Defensive Player of the Year, Logan McFadden. Lipscomb loses Goalkeeper of the Year Kate Mason to graduation.
- Xavier is 1-0-0 against Lipscomb all-time, with the lone match-up occurring in 2012, a 2-1 win for the Musketeers in Cincinnati.

- Villanova finished 2018 at 9-9 overall and 3-6 in BIG EAST play.
- The Wildcats return four All-Conference selections, Second Team defender Kristin Barbour and All Freshman team selections Hensley Hancuff (GK), Niki Molina (M) and Chloe O'Neil (F).
- Xavier is 3-3-0 all-time with the Wildcats after Villanova took the 2-1 win in Cincinnati last season.

Creighton *

- Creighton finished 2018 at 6-10-1 overall and 3-5-1 in BIG EAST play.
- The Bluejays return All-BIG EAST First Team section Taryn Jakubowski and All-Freshman selection Ansley Atkinson in midfield.
- Xavier is 5-4-0 all-time against Creighton, including last season's 1-0 loss on the road to open BIG EAST play.

Seton Hall *

- Seton Hall went 2-12-4 overall, including an 0-9 mark in BIG EAST play.
- Ciara Crinion was hired to lead the Pirates following the 2018 season.
- Xavier is 4-3-1 all time against Seton Hall, including a 3-0 win in South Orange, N.J. in 2018.
- Xavier women's soccer will celebrate its Alumni Weekend on Oct. 5-6, leading up to the game with the Pirates.

at Georgetown *

- Georgetown finished at 21-1-3 overall and 8-0-1 in BIG EAST play, the lone result in league play coming against Xavier. GU won the regular season title and conference tournament, earning a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
- Georgetown topped CCSU, Washington State, Duke and Baylor to advance to the College Cup for the second time in three years. The Hoyas' season ended following a 1-0 loss in double overtime to fellow No. 1 seed North Carolina in the national semifinals.
- GU returns three All-Conference selections, including First Team selection, BIG EAST Defender of the Year and All-American Meaghan Nally, as well as First Team forward/mid Paula Germino Watnick and Second Team selection Gracy Nguyen in midfield.
- The Hoyas lost a talented senior class, including All-Americans and MAC Herman Trophy Semifinalists Caitlin Farrell and Arielle Schechtman. Both players also earned BIG EAST Player of the Year honors, with Farrell earning Offensive Player of the Year and Schechtman earning Goalkeeper of the Year. GU also lost BIG EAST Second Team forward Katrina Wetherell.
- Head coach Dave Nolan and his staff were name the National Staff of the Year following the season.
- Xavier is 0-6-1 all-time against the Hoyas, picking up the program's first result against GU in the regular season finale, a 0-0 draw through double overtime. Xavier fell against the Hoyas, 3-1, in the BIG EAST Championship Semifinals.

Providence *

- Providence finished 2018 at 11-6-3 overall and 4-3-2 in BIG EAST play to earn the No. 6 seed in the BIG EAST Championship.
- Providence advanced to the BIG EAST Semifinals with a 1-0 win over No. 3 St. John's where the Friars' season ended with a 3-2 loss to No. 2 Butler.
- All-BIG EAST second team selections Shelby Hogan (GK) and Hannah McNulty (F), as well as All-Freshman Team defender Hannah Morgan return for Providence.
- The Friars lost All-BIG EAST First Team defender Katie Day and Second Team mid Kayla Steeves to graduation.
- Xavier is 3-4-0 against the Friars all-time, picking up the program's second straight win in double-overtime last season, 3-2, in Providence.

- The Red Storm return All-BIG EAST First Team Selection Zsani Kajan at forward.
- SJU loses a pair of Second Team All-Conference selections, Christina Bellero at forward and Claudia Cagnina at midfield, to graduation.

- The Blue Demon's season came to a close against Xavier in the BIG EAST Championship Quarterfinals, playing to a 1-1 tie through double overtime. The Musketeers advanced on PKs.
- DePaul returns All-BIG EAST Second Team Defender Adrian Walker and All-Freshman Team honorees Mollie Eriksson at goalkeeper and Ellie Mink at midfield.

- Xavier made the program's second-straight appearance in the BIG EAST Championship, earning the No. 4 seed and the program's first home match since joining the conference.
- Xavier advanced to the BIG EAST Semifinals for the first time in program history, playing DePaul to a 1-1 draw then advancing on penalty kicks. It marked the first time Xavier had advanced in the postseason since 2003.
- Georgetown has claimed the BIG EAST Championship title in three-straight seasons.
