CINCINNATI --- ESPN Events has revealed the bracket for the 12th annual Charleston Classic, to be played Nov. 21, 22 & 24 at TD Arena in Charleston, S.C. Xavier opens against Towson on Nov. 21 at 7 p.m. and plays either Buffalo or Connecticut in its second game on Nov. 22.
Â
The field is highlighted by Florida and Xavier, who appear in ESPN.com's latest Way Too Early Top 25 Poll. Florida is at No. 4 and Xavier is at No. 20. The Gators and Musketeers will be joined by returning MAC champion Buffalo, UConn, Miami (Fla.), Missouri State, Saint Joseph's and Towson. Miami (Fla.) took home the Charleston Classic title in both of their previous appearances in 2009 and 2014. Â
Â
Xavier returns four starters from last year's team that finished 19-16, including seniors Quentin Goodin and Tyrique Jones and juniors Naji Marshall and Paul Scruggs. Goodin led Xavier in assists for the third straight season, ranking third in the BIG EAST Conference at 4.8 apg., and Jones led XU in rebounding at 7.7 rpg., which ranked fourth in the BIG EAST. Marshall, a 2018-19 Second Team All-BIG EAST selection, led Xavier in scoring at 14.7 ppg. and was second in rebounding at 7.2 rpg. while Scruggs, a 2019 All-BIG EAST Tournament selection, was second on the team in scoring at 12.3 ppg. and was the only Musketeer to start every game in the 2018-19 season.
Â
In addition to the four returning starters, Xavier boasts a five-member freshman recruiting class that is ranked by most experts among the top 20 in the country. XU also welcomes a pair of graduate transfers, Jason Carter from Ohio and Bryce Moore from Western Michigan, who are expected to play key roles this season. XU will get a head start on preparation for the 2019-20 season with a trip to Spain in August, which includes three exhibition games.
Â
Xavier, which made the 2019 NIT Second Round in its first year under head coach Travis Steele, has made postseason play in six straight seasons. XU has made the NCAA Tournament 12 of the last 14 years, including five of the last six. The Musketeers, who earned a No. 1 seed in the 2018 NCAA Tournament, have made it to at least the NCAA Sweet 16 six times during the last 12 seasons.
Â
The bracket-format tournament features 12 games over three days. The teams compete once per day, regardless of results. The two unbeaten teams will face off in a championship game at 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 24. That game will be televised on ESPN for the first time, having aired on ESPN2 or ESPNU in previous years.
Â
Non-bracketed games: Saint Joseph's at UConn (Nov. 13), Towson at Florida (Nov. 14) and Missouri State at Xavier (Nov. 15)
