Nearly 200 Xavier Student-Athletes Honored as BIG EAST All-Academic

Xavier Athletics posted back-to-back semesters with a department GPA of 3.3 or higher for the first time in department history
NEW YORK – Nearly 200 Xavier student-athletes, representing all 18 teams, were named to the 2018-19 BIG EAST All-Academic team. Xavier's 191 honorees were among the more than 2,500 student-athletes in 22 sports who earned the honor.
To be eligible for the honor, a nominee must have competed in a BIG EAST-sponsored sport, attained a minimum grade-point average of 3.00 for the preceding academic year, and completed a minimum of two consecutive semesters or three consecutive quarters of academic work, with a total of 18 semester or 27 quarter credits, not including remedial courses.
Xavier posted an overall GPA of 3.34 in Fall 2018 and 3.32 in Spring 2019, marking the first time in department history in which both semesters were a 3.3 or above.
Xavier had 122 student athletes, or 44.9 percent, earn Dean's List honors for a 3.5 or above, and 18 student-athletes earn a 4.0 GPA in the Spring 2019 semester.
Xavier women's soccer led all Xavier teams with 26 honorees. Baseball had 25 student-athletes honored. Women's track and field had 23, while women's swimming and men's soccer each had 21 honored.
Of Xavier's 18 teams, 15 earned a team GPA of 3.0 or above during Spring 2019, led by a 3.68 for volleyball.
Nominations for the All-Academic Team are submitted by each of the BIG EAST's 10 member and nine affiliate institutions.
The nominations are reviewed and approved by the BIG EAST Academic Affairs Committee. There are 2,531 honorees for the 2018-19 academic year. Villanova led all schools with 342 student-athletes honored.
