Musketeers Fall to Marquette on Sunday in BIG EAST Action

Junior forward A'riana Gray posted her third straight double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds
CINCINNATI - Junior A'riana Gray posted her third consecutive double-double on Sunday afternoon, scoring 13 points and grabbing 10 rebounds as the Musketeers dropped an 80-60 matchup vs Marquette. The Musketeers dropped to 2-16 (1-6 BIG EAST), while the Golden Eagles improved to 13-5 (4-3 BIG EAST).
• Xavier was limited to 1-for-14 shooting in the opening quarter as the Golden Eagles held a 23-4 advantage after 10 minutes of action. The Musketeers battled back to outscore Marquette, 12-10, in the second quarter - making the score, 33-16, at the break.
• Carrie Gross and Lauren Wasylson both had five points at halftime to pace the Xavier offense. Wasylson also had a team-high five rebounds.
• Marquette hit 64.3 percent (9-for-14) of its shot attempts in the third quarter, outscoring the Musketeers, 28-17. Xavier was limited to a .294 field-goal percentage (5-for-17) in the frame. A'riana Gray scored 11 points on 3-for-5 shooting in the third quarter and pulled down four rebounds.
• Xavier outscored the Golden Eagles, 27-19, in the final quarter on 9-for-19 shooting. The Musketeers also held an 18-11 advantage on the glass in the fourth quarter.
• Junior A'riana Gray posted her 22nd career double-double in the loss, scoring 13 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. The forward scored all 13 of her points in the second half.
• Sophomores Lauren Wasylson and Sarah Leyendecker both added nine points, while Carrie Gross and Deja Ross both chipped in eight. Gross added four assists, while Aaliyah Dunham dished out a team-high six assists.
• The Musketeers matched their season-high in blocks with seven. Sarah Leyendecker paced the Musketeers with four blocks.
• Marquette won the battle on the glass, 51-37. Lauren Wasylson and Courtney Prenger both added five rebounds.
• Xavier scored 10 more points off of turnovers (17-7) than the Golden Eagles. The Musketeers committed a season-low seven turnovers.
• Xavier returns to action on Friday, Jan. 24 at Creighton. Tip-off is slated for 8 p.m. ET from D.J. Sokol Arena.
