• Xavier opened the indoor season at the Mastodon Opener for the fifth consecutive season. All told, Xavier will compete in six indoor meets before the BIG EAST Championships.
• The BIG EAST Championships are slated for March 1-2 in Geneva, Ohio. The two-day meet is being held at the SPIRE Institute for the second time in as many years. The 2016 and 2018 BIG EAST Outdoor Track and Field Championships were also held at the SPIRE Institute.
• The Xavier women posted eight top-10 times at the BIG EAST Championships last year, paced by Anna Kostarellis who placed fourth in the 5,000-meter run (17:19.11). She also placed seventh in the 3,000-meter run (9:38.02).
• Anna Kostarellis also set the school record in the 3,000-meter run (9:33.43) at the Music City Challenge.
• The 4x800 relay team (Blackwell, Fioresi, Ramsey, Russell) also established a new school record in the event, posting a time of 9:09.03 at the BIG EAST Championships.
• On the men's side, the Musketeers had five top-10 finishes at the BIG EAST Championships. Two different relay teams set school records at the meet. The 4x400 (English, Hatchett, Henning, Roberts) finished fourth in a time of 3:17.48 and the 4x800 (Dietrich, Lough, Meehan, Stapleton) placed fourth in a time of 7:38.14.
"I'm excited to be traveling back to Indiana University for their meet after a several year hiatus. Although we only have six girls competing, I think we'll do very well against teams like Wisconsin, Indiana and Ole Miss. On Friday night, we have a solid group racing in the 5,000m. Madeline Dingle and Amanda Cusimano came back from winter break in very good shape. Jennie Prial, who's also in the 5,000m always races well, especially at the bigger meets."
"I was really excited to see that we got two girls in the 800m on Saturday. Both Parker Hopkins and Hannah Russell recently broke our school record in the 800m so they both deserve a shot to run against some great competition. Finally, on Saturday afternoon, Anna Kostarellis will race in the fast section of the 3,000m. This will be a good first test for Anna in the 3k, an event we hope to win at BIG EAST."
• Xavier continues its indoor track and field season at the Meyo Invitational on Feb. 7-8 in South Bend, Ind.
