Musketeers Move to 3-0, Top Indiana State on Monday Night

Senior forward A'riana Gray scored a team-high 16 points to go along with seven rebounds
CINCINNATI - Xavier women's basketball moved to 3-0 on Monday night following a 72-65 win over Indiana State at Cintas Center. The Sycamores dropped to 3-2 on the year.
The three wins matches the Musketeers' win total from the 2019-20 season (3-27). It is Xavier's first 3-0 start since the 2017-18 season.
• After the Sycamores hit the opening basket of the game, the Musketeers scored five unanswered points to take a 5-2 lead. Indiana State responded with a 14-3 run on 5-for-10 shooting, taking an eight-point lead (16-8) at the 2:17 mark. A Morgan Sharps three pointer with 58 seconds on the clock got the Musketeers within two points (16-14), but Indiana State scored four unanswered points to end the quarter - taking a 20-14 advantage.
• Indiana State opened the second frame on a 9-4 run, taking its largest lead of the half (29-18) with 4:20 left on the clock. Xavier responded with a 10-2 run to end the half, making the score 31-28 at intermission.
• Nia Clark led the Musketeers in scoring with nine points, while Kae Satterfield added four points. Ayanna Townsend paced the team on the glass with five rebounds. Aaliyah Dunham also had three assists.
• Indiana State won the battle on the glass, 29-19, in the first half. Xavier held a 7-3 advantage in blocks and had scored two more points off of turnovers (9-7).
• Xavier opened the second half on a 5-0 run on back-to-back baskets from A'riana Gray and Nia Clark, retaking the lead (33-31) for the first time since the opening minute of the game. The Musketeers made it seven straight points on an A'riana Gray jumper at the 8:26 mark to make the score, 35-31.
• Xavier went 8-for-10 from the floor to open the half, taking a 47-39 lead and forcing an Indiana State timeout. The Sycamores battled back to get within one point, 52-51, with 1:10 on the clock before a Kae Satterfield three-point play ended the half - giving the Musketeers a 55-51 advantage.
• The Musketeers went 5-for-7 from the floor to open the final quarter, taking their first double-figure lead of the game, 65-55, with 6:20 on the clock. The Sycamores responded with an 8-3 run to close within five points, 68-63, with 2:06 left in regulation. A'riana Gray and Kae Satterfield made baskets in the closing two minutes to seal the 72-65 win for the Musketeers.
• A'riana Gray scored 14 points in the second half, while Kae Satterfield had 10. The Musketeers hit 59.4 percent (19-for-32) of their shot attempts in the half.
• A'riana Gray led three Musketeers in double figures with 16 points. The senior forward added seven rebounds.
• Kae Satterfield scored 14 points on 6-for-7 shooting. The sophomore also pulled down a team-high eight rebounds. She added two steals, two blocks and two assists in 24 minutes of action off the bench.
• Kae Satterfield is now averaging 13.7 points and 10.0 rebounds per game this season with a .762 field-goal percentage (16-for-21).
• Nia Clark added 13 points on 6-for-14 shooting. The guard added two assists, two steals and one block.
• Courtney Prenger scored eight points on 3-for-4 shooting, while Ayanna Townsend chipped in five points and seven rebounds.
• Aaliyah Dunham scored seven points to go along with six assists and three steals.
• Xavier posted a season-high 11 blocks and had 12 steals - its second game with 12 or more steals this season.
