Musketeers Drop BIG EAST Opener at No. 3 UConn

Nia Clark scored a team-high 11 points on Saturday; Xavier falls, 106-59 at Gampel Pavilion
STORRS, Conn. - Xavier women's basketball dropped its BIG EAST opener at No. 3 UConn, 106-59, on Saturday afternoon at Gampel Pavilion. The Musketeers moved to 3-2 (0-1 BIG EAST), while the Huskies improved to 4-0 (3-0 BIG EAST).
• UConn scored the first 19 points of the game and led the Musketeers after one quarter, 38-7. The Huskies hit 75 percent (15-for-21) of their shot attempts in the first quarter.
• Xavier went 7-for-15 from the floor in the second quarter. UConn outscored the Musketeers in the frame, 22-20, to take a 60-27 advantage into the locker room.
• Morgan Sharps led the Musketeers with six points at the break, while A'riana Gray, Nia Clark and Courtney Prenger all added five points. Clark added a team-high three assists.
• UConn won the battle on the glass, 17-10. Sarah Leyendecker and Kae Satterfield both pulled down two rebounds for Xavier in the half. The Huskies forced 18 turnovers, converting the miscues into 28 points.
• UConn continued the strong shooting performance, going 7-for-11 from the floor in the third quarter. The Huskies outscored Xavier, 28-17, in the frame to take an 88-44 advantage into the final stanza. Nia Clark scored six of her 11 points in the game in the third quarter.
• The Huskies outscored the Musketeers, 18-15, in the final quarter to pull away for the 106-59 win. The Huskies eclipsed the 100-point mark for the first time this season.
• Nine different Musketeers scored in the second half, paced by Carrie Gross who scored seven points.
