Freshman Morgan Sharps posted 13 points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals
CINCINNATI - Xavier women's basketball dropped a 63-50 matchup vs Georgetown on Sunday afternoon at Cintas Center. The Musketeers moved to 2-21 (1-11 BIG EAST), while the Hoyas improved to 5-19 (2-11 BIG EAST).
• Both teams started the game slowly on offense, combining to go 3-for-19 from the floor at the first media timeout (3:25). Georgetown led the Musketeers, 6-3, at the media timeout. The Hoyas went on a 7-0 run after the timeout to take their first double-figure lead of the game, 13-3, with 1:49 on the clock. Xavier closed the frame on a 4-1 run to get within seven points (14-7).
• Xavier used a 14-7 run on 4-for-6 shooting to tie the game at 21 and force a Georgetown timeout with 4:10 left in the half. Georgetown used a 9-4 run to close the half and take a 30-25 advantage into the locker room.
• Morgan Sharps led the Musketeers with six points at the break, while Deja Ross added six. A'riana Gray led the team on the glass with five rebounds.
• Xavier used a 13-7 run fueled by six Lauren Wasylson points to open the second half and regain the lead, 38-37, with 2:24 on the clock. Georgetown responded with a 6-2 run to close the frame, taking a three-point lead (43-40) into the final quarter.
• Morgan Sharps knocked down her third three pointer of the game to open the final quarter, tying the game at 43. Georgetown responded by going on an 8-0 run on 3-for-3 shooting to regain the lead, 50-43, and force a Xavier timeout.
• The Hoyas outscored Xavier, 20-10, in the fourth quarter to pull away for the 63-50 win.
• Junior A'riana Gray posted her eighth double-double of the season, scoring 14 points and pulling down a game-high 14 rebounds. The forward added two assists and one block.
• Freshman Morgan Sharps scored in double figures for the third straight game, posting 13 points on 4-for-7 shooting. The guard has now scored in double figures seven times this season. She added three rebounds, two assists and two steals.
• Sophomore Lauren Wasylson added nine points and junior Deja Ross chipped in eight. Ross added five rebounds. Junior Aaliyah Dunham dished out a game-high assists to go along with two steals.
• Georgetown won the battle on the glass, 45-34, and scored eight more fastbreak points (13-5). Xavier held a 10-5 advantage in points off of turnovers.
• Xavier continues BIG EAST action at Marquette on Friday, Feb. 14 at 8 p.m. ET.
