Xavier men's and women's programs also earn CSCAA Scholar All-America Teams
COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – Following an outstanding freshman season in the pool, Xavier men's swimming's Andrew Martin collected accolades for his work in the classroom, earning Scholar All-American Honorable Mention from College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA).
The award recognizes student-athletes who achieved a grade point average of 3.50 or higher and were invited to compete at their respective national championship.
Martin, a Marketing major, earned All-BIG EAST in four events in his first conference meet, including earning the honor in three individual events after leading the Musketeers in the distance freestyle as Xavier captured its fifth BIG EAST Championship.
Martin, who is originally from Middleton, Wisconsin, came away from year one at Xavier with three school records, in the 200 free, 500 free and 1,650 free, and capped off his first conference meet with a BIG EAST Championship and an NCAA B-Cut time in the mile.
Martin is the only BIG EAST competitor on the men's or women's side to earn the honor this semester. He's the first Musketeer to earn the distinction since Luke Johanns in 2016.
In addition to Martin's honor, Xavier's men and women's teams were both named CSCAA Scholar All-America Teams, awarded to teams for posting a team GPA of 3.0 or higher. Xavier was among the 461 programs to receive the award for the Spring 2020 semester.
The Musketeer women have now earned the honor in 21-straight semesters, and also earned the honor during the 2005-06 academic year. Xavier's men have earned the honor in 19 of the last 21 semesters, including last fall.
Xavier was one of 116 Division I schools to have both the men and women earn the honor.
