2019-20 BIG EAST All-Academic Team Announced

235 Musketeers from all 18 programs honored for earning 3.0 or higher
NEW YORK – The BIG EAST Conference has announced nearly 3,000 student-athletes as members of the 2019-20 BIG EAST All-Academic Team, including 235 Musketeers representing all 18 Xavier programs.
Nominations for the All-Academic Team are submitted by each of the BIG EAST's 10-member schools and affiliate institutions. To be eligible for the honor, a nominee must have competed in a BIG EAST-sponsored sport, attained a minimum grade-point average of 3.00 for the preceding academic year, and completed a minimum of two consecutive semesters or three consecutive quarters of academic work, with a total of 18 semester or 27 quarter credits, not including remedial courses.
Xavier Athletics is coming off a record-breaking semester after posting a department grade-point average of 3.415, a department record, after 17 Xavier teams posted a team GPA of 3.0 or higher. Over 80 percent of Xavier's student-athletes earned a 3.0 during Spring 2020, with 164 Musketeers earning a spot on the Dean's List with a 3.5 and 39 earning a perfect 4.0.
Women's soccer led all Musketeers squads with 27 total student-athletes honored, and baseball led on the men's side with 25 honorees.
All seven women's golf student-athletes were also honored, capping off a Spring 2020 semester where the team earned a department-best 3.84 GPA.
There were 2,768 BIG EAST All-Academic honorees overall for the 2019-20 academic year. For the third-consecutive year Villanova led all schools with 370 student-athletes recognized. Georgetown was a close second with 365. Butler had 286 student-athletes receiving certificates, rounding out the top three for the second year. Affiliate student-athletes made up 214 of the honorees.
