Baseball Adds Transfer Tyler DeMartino from West Virginia

CINCINNATI – Xavier baseball head coach announced the addition of Tyler DeMartino, an first baseman/outfielder transferring from West Virginia. DeMartino spent the 2020 season with the Mountaineers and will have four years of eligibility remaining.
In his shortened season at West Virginia, DeMartino went 3-for-10 (.300) at the plate in six total games played, collecting a pair of RBI. He made his collegiate debut on February 18, 2020, against Canisius, finishing 1-for-3 with an RBI, and also drove in a run at VCU. DeMartino earned his first career start at Coastal Carolina, playing in right field. He also appeared at first base for the Mountaineers. During his season at West Virginia, he earned a spot on the Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team.
Prior to WVU, DeMartino played for coach Joe Cassidy at Walt Whitman High School, where he was a three-year team captain. He earned First Team All-Met from the Washington Post after hitting .524 with 25 RBI as a senior, leading Whitman to the school's first 4A Regional Championship.
In club action, he was the clean-up hitter for the Canes Prospects team that won the PG World Championships in Jupiter, FL in 2018. He was also a member of the 2019 Canes National Team.
Additionally, he also an All-4A West First Team selection as a junior and was named to the 2018 Perfect Game Preseason Underclassmen All-America Second Team, earning the No. 2-ranking in Maryland, from Perfect Game.
DeMartino is majoring in Sports Management at Xavier. He is the son of Chris and Erin DeMartino. Both of his parents attended Loyola (Md.) where his father played baseball and his mother was a member of the swim team. He has three siblings, Christopher, Delaney and Riley. His brother Christopher plays soccer at the College of Charleston.
