Billy O'Conner Announces Updates to the Baseball Staff

Riley Bertram promoted to Recruiting Coordinator; Troy LaNeve joins the staff as an Assistant Coach; Tyler Hutson joins staff as a Pitching Development Assistant
CINCINNATI - Siemers Family Baseball Head Coach Billy O'Conner announced updates to the Xavier Baseball coaching staff ahead of the 2026 season. Current Assistant Coach Riley Bertram has been promoted to Recruiting Coordinator, Troy LaNeve joins the staff as an Assistant Coach, and Tyler Hutson joins Xavier's staff as a Pitching Development Assistant.
Bertram joined Xavier's staff in Fall 2023, helping the Musketeers to 30-plus wins and a Top 50 RPI in each of the last two seasons. The 2024 Musketeers collected 30 victories against the 25th hardest schedule overall and third hardest non-conference schedule. In BIG EAST play, Xavier went 12-9, earning the No. 4 seed the 2024 BIG EAST Tournament.
Last season's Musketeer squad finished with 32 wins, taking on the fifth hardest non-conference schedule in the nation. Xavier posted a 14-7 record in BIG EAST play, earning the No. 3 seed in the BIG EAST Tournament.
Prior to joining Xavier's staff, Bertram, a middle infielder, wrapped up his collegiate playing career in 2023 as a grad student at Clemson after spending four seasons at Michigan. Bertram, who is originally from Zionsville, Ind., earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Michigan in 2022, and a Certificate in Athletic Leadership from Clemson in 2023.
LeNeve comes to Xavier from Lipscomb University where he served as the Assistant Director of Operations and Player Development. In addition to overseeing daily operations and coordinating team operations, LaNeve also served as a hitting coach, creating individualized training programs for the Bisons. LaNeve also previously worked in operations for Music City Baseball in Nashville, Tenn.
A graduate of Vanderbilt, LaNeve played in 129 games for the Commodores, starting in 79. The outfielder batted .260 for his career, collecting 80 hits, driving in 76 RBI and scoring 59 runs during his time at Vandy. LaNeve, a native of Pittsburgh, Pa., earned a Bachelor of Science in Human and Organizational Development in May 2023 and a Masters in Human Development Studies in December 2024.
Hutson joins O'Conner's staff after wrapping up his collegiate playing career at West Viriginia during the 2025 season. Hutson, a right-handed pitcher, made 14 appearances, including one start, for the Mountaineers last season. The native of Villa Hills, Ky., posted a 4.97 ERA and collected 29 strikeouts in 25.1 innings of work.
Prior to playing at West Virginia, Hutson spent three seasons at Southern Indiana, making 61 appearances, including 14 starts, for the Screaming Eagles. During his time at USI, Hutson had a 4.95 ERA and struck out 132 batters in 132.2 innings of work, collecting five wins and nine saves.
At Southern Indiana, Hutson earned a spot on the 2024 OVC Championship All-Tournament Team and was twice named to the OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Integrated Studies from West Virginia in May 2025.
