Xavier returns to action on Friday at 7 PM in NIT Season Tip-Off third-place game

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Jack Nunge posted a career-best performance, leading the Musketeers with 24 points, but No. 25 Xavier was unable to overcome a hot-shooting Iowa State Cyclones team, falling 82-70 at Barclays Center on Wednesday evening.

Xavier moved to 4-1 on the season and will play in the third-place team of the NIT Season Tip-Off, set for 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 26.

FIRST HALF

Iowa State took an early lead, jumping out to a 10-3 lead after five Xavier turnovers turned into six Cyclone points.
Xavier trailed by as many as 10 in the early going but outscored Iowa State 9-4 over the next three minutes to pull within five, 21-16, with under 10 to play.
Iowa State maintained a multiple possession lead until Xavier used a 12-2 run, featuring seven points from Jack Nunge, to take its first lead, 30-29, with 4:33 to play before halftime.
The two teams traded baskets over the final four minutes, with neither team leading by more than one possession before going into the half with Xavier leading 39-38.
Jack Nunge led Xavier with 11 points, going 5-of-5 from the floor in the first half.
Colby Jones added eight points on 4-of-5 shooting on field goals.
Xavier's bench picked up the Musketeers on offense, outscoring Iowa State's bench 15-4.
Xavier held a 21-18 advantage on boards, led by seven for Colby Jones.
After trailing ISU 6-0 on points off turnovers in the first five minutes, Xavier turned the tables to outscore Iowa State 8-2 on miscues for the rest of the half.

SECOND HALF

The Cyclones opened the second half with a 9-0 run to go back in front, 47-39, before Nate Johnson got the scoring started for the Musketeers.
Iowa State led by as many as 14 in the first 10 minutes of the second half, before Xavier went on a 10-2 run over the next 2:43 to pull within six, 64-58, with 10 minutes to play.
Xavier pulled within five, 66-61, with under eight to play, but a 7-0 Iowa State run pushed the lead back to double digits.
The Musketeers trailed by as many 16 before falling by a final score of 82-70.
Jack Nunge's 13 second half points led the way for Xavier.
Dwon Odom added six after the break.
Colby Jones grabbed five more rebounds as Xavier had an 18-15 advantage on the boards.
Xavier was limited to 36 percent shooting from the floor, going 1-of-9 from three, while Iowa State shot nearly 60 percent (19-32), including a 50 percent clip from three.

NOTABLES

Jack Nunge set a new career high at 24, topping his previous career-high of 18, set four times during his career at Iowa. Nunge finished 9-of-11 from the floor, and 8-of-8 on two point field goals.
Colby Jones picked up a second-straight double-double, finishing with 11 points and grabbing a team-high 12 rebounds.
Dwon Odom finished with 10 points, shooting 4-of-5 from the floor.
Iowa State shot over 50 percent from the floor for the game, connecting on 10-of-20 three pointers while Xavier shot just over 43 percent, going 3-21 from outside.
Xavier finished with a 39-33 advantage on rebounds, including a 16-11 advantage on offensive boards, outscoring Iowa State 21-9 on second chance points.
The Musketeer bench outscored the Cyclones bench 34-7.
