
Musketeers Win Third Straight, Top Eastern Kentucky on Saturday

Nia Clark scored a game-high 22 points; Xavier recorded a 73-60 victory
RICHMOND, Ky. - Nia Clark led four Musketeers in double figures on Saturday with a game-high 22 points, leading the Musketeers to a 73-60 win at Eastern Kentucky.
Xavier has now won three straight games, moving to 3-3 on the year. Eastern Kentucky dropped to 2-3.
The last time the Musketeers won three games in a row was on Nov. 25, 2020 - Dec. 14, 2020 (won three straight games to start the 2020-21 season).
• Xavier led by three points (11-8) early in the first quarter before the Colonels scored five unanswered points, taking a 13-11 advantage and forcing a Xavier timeout at the 4:46 mark. The Musketeers responded with a 9-0 run to take a 20-13 advantage.
• Kalissa Lacy hit a three pointer with 51 seconds on the clock to get the Colonels within four points (20-16) before Nia Clark hit a jump shot as time expired, giving Xavier a 22-16 advantage. Xavier hit 50 percent (9-for-18) of its shot attempts in the opening frame, paced by Clark who had eight points.
• EKU battled back in the second quarter, outscoring Xavier, 16-8, to take a two-point lead (32-30) with 1:35 left in the half. Nia Clark hit a basket in the closing minute to knot the game at 32-32 going into halftime. The Colonels forced seven turnovers in the frame, converting the miscues into nine points.
• Nia Clark led all scorers at the break with 14 points on 5-for-9 shooting. Ayanna Townsend added six points and a team-high four rebounds. EKU won the battle on the glass in the first half, 21-17. All told, the first half had eight ties and five lead changes.
• Xavier opened the third quarter on a 6-2 run capped by a Nia Clark layup, taking a six-point lead (40-34). The Colonels responded with their own 6-2 run, closing within two points (42-40) at the media timeout (4:53).
• Another 6-2 Xavier run put the Musketeers ahead by six points (48-42) with 1:19 left in the third frame. EKU sank a pair of free throws in the closing seconds to get within four points (48-44). Kae Satterfield scored eight points in the quarter for the Musketeers.
• The Colonels closed within one point (50-49) early in the fourth quarter, but the Musketeers were able to pull away behind a .727 field-goal percentage (8-for-11). The Musketeers closed the game on a 13-4 run on 3-for-4 shooting. Xavier also went 7-for-8 from the foul line during that stretch.
• Nia Clark scored six of her game-high 22 points in the fourth quarter.

The guard has now 17 career double-figure scoring games, including two 20-point performances (both coming this season). Clark added four assists, three steals and three rebounds in a game-high 39 minutes of action.
• Ayanna Townsend scored a season-high 14 points, her second game of the season in double figures (11th of her career). The forward was 6-for-12 from the floor and pulled down six rebounds. Townsend added one block, moving her career total to 60 blocks (ranking tied for eighth all-time at Xavier).
• Kae Satterfield was two rebounds shy of her second straight double-double. The guard scored 13 points on 4-for-8 shooting to go along with eight rebounds, three steals and three assists.
• Aanaya Harris rounded out the double-figure scorers with 12 points on 4-for-5 shooting. She also went 4-for-4 from the foul line. The freshman added five rebounds, three assists and two steals. Harris has now scored in double figures in five games this season.
• Xavier won the battle on the glass, 39-31, and scored six more second-chance points (14-8). The Musketeers also hed a 36-26 advantage in points in the paint.
• Xavier had 12 steals in the game, its third contest with 10 or more steals. Seven different Musketeers recorded a steal in the contest.
• The Musketeers posted their second-highest field-goal percentage of the season, going 26-for-55 (.473) from the floor.
• Xavier also made its first 13 free throws of the game, finishing 21-for-23 from the charity stripe.
