Hayes Posts Career High in Scoring, Xavier Falls at DePaul

The center scored a career-high 17 points on Sunday night
CHICAGO - Graduate student Mikayla Hayes scored a career-high 17 points on Sunday night in Xavier's 103-85 loss at DePaul.
Xavier dropped to 3-5 (0-2 BIG EAST), while DePaul improved to 7-2 (2-0 BIG EAST).
• DePaul took an early 12-7 lead over the Musketeers before Xavier went on a 10-3 run, taking its first lead of the game, 17-15. The Blue Demons finished the first quarter by outscoring Xavier, 11-6, to take a three-point lead (26-23).
• A Nia Clark three-point play to open the second stanza tied the game at 26-26. DePaul responded with a 23-13 run, taking its first double-figure lead of the game (49-39) with 1:18 left in the first half. A Courtney Prenger jumper with 28 seconds on the clock got Xavier within eight points, but DePaul's Sonya Morris made basket as time expired - made the score 53-43 at the break.
• Xavier hit 54.3 percent (19-for-35) of its shot attempts in the first half and scored 34 points in the paint. Nia Clark paced the offense with 13 points on 6-for-7 shooting, while Aanaya Harris added 10 points on 5-for-6 shooting. Ayanna Townsend pulled down five rebounds in the first half.
• The first half had five ties and four lead changes.
• DePaul opened the third quarter on a 6-0 run forcing a Xavier timeout. The Musketeers responded by scoring six unanswered points to force a Blue Demon timeout and get within 10 points (59-49) at the 8:04 mark. Xavier closed within 10 points only one more time in the frame before the Blue Demons closed the stanza on a 5-1 run, taking an 81-63 lead.
• Both teams scored 22 points in the fourth quarter as the Blue Demons pulled away for the 103-85 victory. Mikayla Hayes scored 13 points in the final quarter on 5-for-7 shooting.
• Xavier posted a season high in points (85), field goals (35) and assists (24). The Musketeers also scored 56 points in the paint and had 26 fastbreak points.
• Nia Clark led four Musketeers in double figures with 19 points on 8-for-13 shooting. She added a career-high six assists to go along with two steals, two rebounds and one block.
• Mikayla Hayes finished with a career-high 17 points on 6-for-10 shooting (all her points came in the second half). She added seven rebounds in 19 minutes of action off the bench.
• Aanaya Harris scored 12 points on 6-for-11 shooting to go along with a season-high seven assists. She added four rebounds and one steal.
• Mackayla Scarlett added 10 points on 3-for-6 shooting in 19 minutes of action off the bench. She chipped in four rebounds and two steals.
• Shaila Beeler and Kae Satterfield combined for 16 points, eight rebounds and nine assists.
• DePaul won the battle on the glass, 46-40, and had three more points off of turnovers (19-16). The Blue Demons also held a 34-12 advantage in second-chance points.
• Xavier continues non-conference action on Wednesday, Dec. 8 vs Niagara. Tip-off is slated for 12 p.m. ET from Cintas Center.
