A'riana Gray Leads Musketeers to 58-48 Win Over Hoyas on Senior Day

The senior forward posted 14 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists on Sunday afternoon
CINCINNATI - Senior forward A'riana Gray posted her 28th career double-double on Sunday afternoon, leading the Xavier women's basketball team to a 58-48 win over Georgetown on Senior Day. Xavier improved to 5-9 (2-8 BIG EAST), while the Hoyas dropped to 2-14 (2-14 BIG EAST).
Gray finished with 14 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. She matched her career high in assists with seven.
• Xavier opened the game on a 10-0 run on 4-for-4 shooting and never looked back as the Musketeers never trailed in the game. The Musketeers outscored the Hoyas, 23-11, in the opening stanza by connecting on 61.5 percent (8-for-13) of their shot attempts. The 23 points were the most in an opening quarter for Xavier this season.
• The Musketeers scored four unanswered points to open the second quarter, taking their largest lead of the game, 28-11, with 8:24 on the clock. Georgetown responded by going on a 12-5 run to close within 10 points (33-23) before a Sarah Leyendecker basket in the closing minute gave Xavier a 35-23 halftime lead.
• A'riana Gray led the Musketeers with eight points on 3-for-4 shooting at the break, while Sarah Leyendecker pulled down a team-high seven rebounds. Xavier held an 18-14 advantage on the glass.
• Georgetown outscored Xavier, 13-11, in the third quarter. The Hoyas closed within eight points, 44-36, with 35 seconds left on the clock. A Kae Satterfield layup as time expired on a putback gave Xavier a 46-36 lead after three quarters of action.
• The Hoyas closed within six points (54-48) with 2:20 left in regulation, but the Musketeers held the Hoyas without any points from that point forward. Xavier used a 4-0 run to close the game capped by a pair of Aaliyah Dunham free throws with 41 seconds on the clock - sealing the 10-point victory (58-48).

• Georgetown won the battle on the glass, 36-34. Xavier held a 19-5 advantage in points off of turnovers.
• The win snapped a four-game home losing streak vs the Hoyas. Xavier moved to 8-10 in the all-time series with Georgetown.
• Xavier clinched the No. 9 seed in the BIG EAST Tournament – they will play either St. John's (with a loss on Monday) or Providence (with a St. John's win on Monday). The Musketeers will play in the opening game on Friday, March 5 at 11 a.m. at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn.
