Swimming Faces Off with Miami (Ohio) in Oxford

CINCINNATI - Xavier men's and women's swimming continue the 2021 spring schedule on Saturday, traveling to Oxford, Ohio to face the Miami RedHawks. The meet is set to begin at 1:00 p.m. at the Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center.

 MIAMI (OHIO) NOTES |
- Miami opened the 2021 season on January 23 against UIndy, with both RedHawks teams picking up sizable wins after winning a combined 19 of 24 events.
- Miami's men finished second at last season's MAC Championships, while the women finished fourth.
- Last season's meet at Miami was canceled. The two teams last faced off in 2018-19, with the RedHawks winning on both sides.

- Next weekend, the Xavier women will travel to Ball State to face the Cardinals on February 13 at 12 p.m.
- Both teams will be back in action on February 20 at 1:00 PM at Denison.

 MEN LAST TIME OUT |
- In the second of two meets last weekend, Xavier's men won five events, but fell to Ball State at 12th Annual Butler Invite.
- Alex Sironen, Jon Bernard, Joey Mullen and Christian Thomas led off the event for the Musketeers with a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:33.30.
- Ben Quon picked up a pair of event wins for the Musketeers, sweeping the backstroke events. Quon set a personal-best time of 51.35 in the 100 back and finished the 200 back in 1:54.91.
- Andrew Martin took the top spot in the 100 free with a time of 9:24.56.
- Davis Klein won the 200 IM with a time of 2:00.65.
- Jon Bernard led the Musketeers in a pair of events, a second place finish in the 200 breast with a time of 2:03.57 and a second-place finish in the 200 free with a personal-best time of 1:42.53.
- Christian Thomas led Xavier in the freestyle sprints, placing thid in the 50 free with a time of 21.59 and second in the 100 back with a time of 46.37.
- Will Serad and Joey Mullen each picked up a third place finish, in the 100 breast and 100 fly respectively.
- Jack Parker and Daniel Stroh each led the Musketeers into the wall in an event, the 200 fly, and the 500 free.
- Xavier closed out the event with a win in the 400 free relay for Jon Bernard, Christian Thomas, Ethan Wing and Andrew Martin with a time of 3:05.65.

 WOMEN LAST TIME OUT |
- In the second of two meets last weekend, Xavier's women claimed the top spot at the Butler Invite after winning 13 of 14 events.
- Kali Fischer, Lydia Schaeffer, Taylor Hogan and Clara Keiser led the Musketeers in the first race, winning in the 200 medley with a time of 1:48.36.
- Fischer also led the Musketeers in the 100 free and 200 free, She took the top spot in the 200 free with a season-best time of 1:54.39, and also won the 100 free with a time of 53.00.
- Lorelei Gaertner led the Musketeers in two events, winning the 100 back with a time of 1:00.58 and winning the 100 fly with a time of 59.82.
- Alison Herman took first in a pair of events, the 100 breast, with a time of 1:07.12, and the 200 IM, with a time of 2:11.05, both season-best times.
- Taylor Hogan placed first in a pair of events, the 200 fly, with a time of 2:07.82, and the 200 back, with a season-best time of 2:08.17.
- Clara Keiser won a pair of events, the 50 free (25.12) and the 500 free (5:17.45).
- Lydia Schaeffer won the 200 breast with a time of 2:27.63.
- Emma Kauffeld led the Musketeers with a second-place finish in the 1000 free.
- Keiser, Fischer, Erin Ritz and Emma Swabb combined to win the 400 free relay in a time of 3:39.38.

- Xavier's men will look for a third-straight team BIG EASTÂ Championship this season, with eight All-BIG EAST performers returning from last season.
- Among Xavier's returnees are is freestyle distance specialist Andrew Martin, who led the Musketeers in individual points scored at last season's conference meet. During his rookie season, Martin took home the BIG EAST Championship in the 1,650 free with an NCAA B-Cut time, and collected a pair of second-place finishes in the 200 free and 500 free, posting school records in all three races.
- Xavier also return all-conference performers Jon Bernard, Noah Coomler, Ben Quon, Jared Ritz, Will Serad, Alex Sironen and Christian Thomas.
- Xavier added a pair of newcomers to the roster, Reed Harris and Jack Parker.
- The Musketeers lost three members of last year's BIG EAST Championship squad to graduation, including two-time BIG EAST Champion in the 200 fly, Landon Clark, and Brandon Abboud, who earned All-BIG EAST in a team-leading five events last season.Â

- Xavier's women finished third at the 2020 BIG EAST Championships, collecting three first place finishes along the way.
- Xavier returns seven All-Conference honorees, including the BIG EAST Champ in the 200 fly, Taylor Hogan.
- All-BIG EAST Team members Brooke Atkins, Clare Bosse, Maureen Cummins, Lorelei Gaertner, Erin Merke and Lydia Schaeffer also return.
- Xavier's roster is also bolstered by the addition of an eight-person incoming class on the women's side.
- The Musketeers had five graduate following last season. Among the graduating class were four All-BIG EAST performers, including Emily Conners who led the Musketeers with all-conference performances in seven events last season, including the 50 free, 100 free and 200 free.
