
Four Musketeers Score in Double Figures, Xavier Falls to DePaul

Shelby Calhoun had 11 points, seven rebounds and three assists on Sunday
CINCINNATI - Four Musketeers scored in double figures in Xavier's 94-74 loss to DePaul on Sunday afternoon at Cintas Center. Xavier dropped to 6-11 (1-7 BIG EAST), while the Blue Demons improved to 16-4 (8-1 BIG EAST).
• Xavier jumped out to an early 13-11 lead behind a .600 field-goal percentage (6-for-10) at the first media timeout (4:59). DePaul finished the frame by outscoring the Musketeers, 12-6, to take a four-point lead (23-19). Ayanna Townsend led Xavier with nine points in the opening quarter as the Musketeers connected on 56.3 percent (9-for-16) of their shot attempts.
• DePaul opened the second quarter by scoring six unanswered points, taking its first double-figure lead of the game (29-19) and forcing a Xavier timeout (8:18). The Blue Demons led by as many as 21 points (53-32) with 46 seconds left before Xavier closed the half on a 5-0 run, making the score 53-37. Shelby Calhoun hit a half-court shot as the time expired, knocking down the Musketeers' lone three pointer in the first half.
• Ayanna Townsend led the Musketeers with nine points, while Aanaya Harris chipped in eight points. Shaila Beeler had a team-high four rebounds and three assists. DePaul had one more rebound (24-23) than Xavier and scored 18 points off of turnovers.
• DePaul outscored Xavier, 11-6, in the opening minutes of the second half - building a 64-43 advantage with 7:25 on the clock. The Musketeers responded with a 9-0 run to force a DePaul timeout and close within 12 points (64-52). The Blue Demons finished the third frame by outscoring Xavier, 9-8, taking a 73-60 lead.
• Xavier closed within 12 points two times in the fourth quarter, but the Blue Demons finished the game on a 9-3 run - pulling away for the 94-74 victory.
• Mackayla Scarlett scored 10 of her 12 points in the second half. Xavier only committed seven turnovers in the second half after posting 15 in the first half.
• Aanaya Harris posted a team-high 17 points on 8-for-11 shooting, her ninth game in double figures this season. She added five rebounds and one assist.
• Ayanna Townsend added 15 points on 7-for-12 shooting to go along with seven rebounds. Mackayla Scarlett posted 12 points, four steals and three assists.
• Shelby Calhoun rounded out the double-figure scorers with 11 points. She added seven rebounds and three assists in 25 minutes of action off the bench.
• Courtney Prenger pulled down a team-high eight rebounds to go along with four points. Shaila Beeler recorded six points, five rebounds and a team-high five assists.
• Both teams had 46 rebounds in the contest. The Blue Demons held a 21-11 advantage in second-chance points and scored 17 more points off of turnovers (28-11). DePaul also scored two more fastbreak points (22-20).
• Xavier hit 31 field goals (31-for-72), the third most made baskets for the Musketeers in a game this season. The team's 17 assists were the fifth-most in a game this season.
• Xavier plays the first of three straight road games on Friday, Jan. 28 at Georgetown. The road trip continues with games at Villanova (Jan. 30) and St. John's (Feb. 2).
