Women's Soccer Falls to No. 11 Virginia in NCAA Championship Second Round

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - Xavier women's soccer wrapped up the 2022 season on Friday afternoon, falling to No. 11 Virginia, 3-1, in the NCAA Championship Second Round at Penn State's Jeffrey Field.
Virginia, a No. 3 seed in the NCAA Championship, took the lead early, scoring in the sixth minute and adding a second goal in the 20th minute. Xavier responded quickly, cutting the lead back to 2-1 less than two minutes later when Ella Rogers scored off a free kick just outside the box, with the one-goal advantage holding into halftime. Virginia extended the lead back to two goals midway through the second half, setting the final score at 3-1.
The Musketeers finish the season with 14 wins, tied for third most wins in program history. After finishing second in the BIG EAST, with an unbeaten conference record in the regular season, Xavier finished runners-up at the BIG EAST Championship and earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Championship for a second-straight season. Xavier advanced in the NCAA Tournament for the second time in program history after taking 4-1 win over Tennessee in the first round.

- Molly McLaughlin led the Musketeers with two shots in 90 minutes of action. She wrapped up the season with a team-best 18 points on seven goals and four assists.
- Natalie Bain played the full 90 minutes, wrapping up her freshman season with over 2,000 minutes played. Maddie Reed also played the full time, with over 1,900 minutes for the season, helping Xavier to a season GAA of 0.77.
- McLaughlin and Rogers played the full time as well.
- Xavier wrapped up the 2022 season at 14-4-5, tied for the third most wins in a season in program history. The Musketeers posted a 6-0-4 record in BIG EAST play, the first unbeaten conference slate in program history.
- The Musketeers' stretch of 13 matches without a loss, including the entire BIG EAST regular season schedule, was the second longest such stretch in program history.
- Xavier's 11 shutouts are tied for second most in the team's single season record book. Freshman goalkeeper Maria Galley tied the single season individual record for shutouts at 11. Her 14 wins in-goal are the second most for a goalkeeper in Xavier's records.
- Galley made four saves against the Cavaliers, wrapping up the season with a .775 save percentage.
- Xavier's at-large bid to the NCAA Championship was the second at-large bid in program history. It marked the fifth bid to the NCAA tournament for the program, and the first time the program has gone to the national tournament in back-to-back seasons.
