Women's Soccer Advances to BIG EAST Championship with 3-1 Double OT Win Over St. John's

St. John's struck first, taking a a lead off a free kick midway through the first half and held the lead into the break. Xavier took a 6-5 advantage on shots into halftime, but the Red Storm's goal was the only look on frame for either team in the first half. St. John's also held a 2-0 advantage on corners in the first 45 minutes.
Out of the break, Xavier held the advantage on offense, outshooting St. John's 4-0 in the second 45. The Musketeers broke through in the 78th minute, with Emma Flick scoring from Ella Rogers and Molly McLaughlin to tie the match 1-1 and force overtime.
In the first 10-minute overtime period, the Musketeer offense came alive, with Molly McLaughlin shooting from outside the box on the right side, with the ball bouncing off the SJU goalkeeper's hand into the goal for the game-winner, and Chloe Netzel scoring on a header in the box to put Xavier up 3-1. Both teams were scoreless in the second overtime period, with the Musketeers taking the 3-1 win.
Xavier will face No. 1 seed Georgetown at the Maryland SoccerPlex on Sunday, November 6, set for a 1:30 p.m. start on FS1. The Hoyas topped Creighton 1-0 in the Semifinals on Thursday to advance to the championship match.

- Emma Flick also picked up three points in the match on a goal and an assist. Her second-half goal is her fourth of the season. She assisted on Chloe Netzel's goal late in the first overtime period, her third of the season, to bring her season total to 11 points.
- Chloe Netzel scored her fifth goal of the season in the first overtime period. She now has 11 points on five goals and an assist.
- Ella Rogers picked up an assist on Flick's goal, her team-best fifth of the season.
- Xavier's three goals are the most scored against St. John's this season. The Red Storm haven't allowed multiple goals in a match since playing Columbia to a 2-2 on August 28.
- Maddie Reed, Natalie Bain, Ella Rogers and Molly McLaughlin played the full 110 minutes for the Musketeer defense, helping Xavier limit St. John's to just two goals after halftime, both coming in the second overtime period. Elise Le and Rachel Dewey each played over 85 minutes.
- Maria Galley played the full 110 minutes in-goal, collecting a save with a goal against to move to 13-2-5 on the season.
