Xavier Baseball Announces 2023 Schedule

Musketeers set to begin season on February 17 at Oregon
CINCINNATI - Xavier baseball head coach Billy O'Conner announced the schedule for Spring 2023 this week. The Musketeers are set to get the schedule underway on February 17, 2023 on the road against the Oregon Ducks. The Musketeers' home schedule begins on Wednesday, March 15 when Xavier hosts Michigan at Hayden Field.

Among Xavier's 24 scheduled opponents are six teams that competed in last season's NCAA Tournament. Outside of BIG EAST play, Xavier will face opponents from 12 different conferences, including the ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-12 and SEC.Â

The Musketeers look to make a fourth-straight trip to the BIG EAST Championship, co-hosted by Xavier at Prasco Park in Mason, Ohio, over Memorial Day Weekend. Xavier advanced to the championship series and finished runners-up in each of the last three tournaments held (2019, 2021, 2022).

Eugene, Ore.
- Oregon went 36-25 overall last season with an 18-12 record in Pac-12, earning the No. 4 seed in the Pac-12 Tournament.
- The Ducks earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, going to the Louisville Regional where they picked up a win over Southeast Missouri State.
- Xavier is 0-1 all-time against the Ducks.
Feb. 22
Louisville, Ky.
- Louisville went 42-21-1 overall last season with a 18-11-1 record in ACC play.
- UofL earned the No. 2 seed in the ACC Tournament and an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.
- The Cards won the Louisville regional, featuring Michigan, Oregon and Southeast Missouri State, to advance to the College Station Super Regional.
- Xavier is 18-39 against the Cardinals after falling in the lone match-up last season.Â
Feb. 24-26
Cullowhee, N.C.
- Western Carolina went 26-31-1 overall with a 9-11-1 record in the SoCon.
- WCU earned the No. 6 seed in the SoCon Baseball Championship, winning its opening game against VMI before being eliminated by Samford and UNCG.
- Xavier is 2-4 all-time against the Catamounts after going 1-2 in Cincinnati last season.
Highland Heights, Ky.
Feb. 28
- NKU went 19-35 overall in 2022, and 11-17 in Horizon League play.
- Northern Kentucky earned the No. 6 seed in the Horizon League Tournament, winning its opening round game before being eliminated.
- Xavier is 37-20-1 all-time against the Norse after splitting the two-game series last season.
Santa Barbara, Calif.
March 3-5
- The Gauchos went 44-14 overall last year, with a 27-3 record in the Big West, winning the regular season title and earning the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
- UCSB earned a spot in the Stanford Regional where the Gauchos fell to No. 13 Texas State before picking up a win over Binghamton. They were eliminated by Stanford.
- Xavier is 0-2 all-time against UC Santa Barbara.
San Luis Obispo, Calif.
March 7
- Cal Poly went 37-21 overall last season, with a 22-8 record in the Big West.
- This will be the first match-up between the two programs.
Moraga, Calif.
March 9-11
- The Gaels went 25-30 overall last season with a 9-18 record in WCC play.
- Xavier is 0-3 all-time against St. Mary's.

Ann Arbor, Mich.
May 16
- Xavier opens up home play against the Wolverines on March 15 before making the return trip to Ann Arbor on May 16.
- Michigan went 34-28 overall last season with a 12-12 record in Big Ten play, earning the No. 5 seed in the Big Ten Tournament.
- Michigan won the Big Ten Tournament Championship, earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, where they were eliminated in the Louisville Regional.
- Xavier is 4-3 all-time against the Wolverines after taking both games last season.
Cincinnati, Ohio (Hayden Field)
March 17-19
- Wofford went 42-16-1 last season with a 16-4-1 record in SoCon play, winning the regular season league championship and earning the No. 1 seed to the conference tournament.
- The Terriers opened up the SoCon Tournament with back to back wins, over UNC Greensboro and Samford, before falling twice to UNC Greensboro.
- Xavier is 2-6 all-time against the Terriers.

- Xavier will host the Bearcats for a midweek game before traveling to UC in May.
- The Musketeers and Bearcats will also potentially face off in the Joe Nuxhall Classic.
- Cincinnati went 24-31 overall and 12-12 in AAC play last season.
- The Bearcats were the No. 4 seed in the AAC Tournament, opening play with a win over Tulane before being eliminated by loss to ECU and Tulane.
- Xavier is 51-70 all-time against the Bearcats after going 4-0 in the season series last season.

- West Virginia finished 2022 at 33-22 overall with a 14-10 record in Big 12 play.
- WVU earned the No. 6 seed at the Big 12 Championship, falling to Oklahoma and Kansas State to wrap up the season.
- Xavier has a 1-0 record all-time against the Mountaineers.
Columbus Ohio
March 28
- Ohio State went 20-30 overall in 2022 and 8-14 in Big Ten play.
- Xavier is 9-16 all-time against the Buckeyes.
Fairborn, Ohio
March 29
- The Raiders went 30-27 overall last season, with a 20-9 record in Horizon League play, winning the regular season title.
- As the No. 1 seed, Wright State won the Horizon League tournament to earn a bid to the NCAA Tournament, where they fell in the Blacksburg Regional.
- Xavier is 32-39 all-time against Wright State after splitting the two-game series last season.
- Xavier will also potentially face off with Wright State on April 11 for the Joe Nuxhall Classic.

- NIU went 14-40 overall with a 13-25 record in MAC play.
- Xavier is 1-1 all-time against Northern Illinois.

- Xavier opens play at Miami on April 4 in Oxford, Ohio.
- Miami went 23-33 overall and 18-22 in MAC play last season.
- The next game will be on April 11 at UC, against Cincinnati or Wright State depending on results on April 4.
- Xavier won the 2022 Joe Nuxhall Classic with wins over Cincinnati, 10-6, and Miami (Ohio), 17-2.

- Butler went 20-35-1 overall and 4-16-1 in BIG EAST play.
- Xavier is 65-34 against the Bulldogs all-time after sweeping the three-game series last season.

- UConn went 50-16 last season, winning the BIG EAST regular season with a 16-5 record.
- The Huskies won the BIG EAST Tournament Championship as well, earning the at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.
- Connecticut advanced to the NCAA Super Regionals after coming out of the Maryland Regional.
- Xavier is 4-8 all-time against the Huskies after going 1-2 in the regular season series, and falling to UConn in the BIG EAST Championship game.
Lexington, Ky.
April 18
- Kentucky went 33-26 overall with a 12-18 record in SEC play.
- The Wildcats won the opening game of the SEC Tournament against Auburn before falling to LSU. UK advanced with back-to-back wins against Vanderbilt and LSU before being eliminated by No. 1 Tennessee.
- The Musketeers are 2-29 all-time against the Wildcats.Â
Philadelphia, Pa.
April 21-23
- Villanova went 19-29-1 overall and 8-12 in BIG EAST play in 2022.
- Xavier is 15-9 all-time against Villanova after winning the series 2-1 last season.

April 25
- Eastern Kentucky went 38-20 overall last season, with a 20-10 record in the ASUN, winning the west division and earning the No. 6 seed in the conference tournament.
- EKU advanced to the ASUN Tournament Semifinals where they were eliminated by Liberty
- Xavier is 20-28 all-time against the Colonels after falling in the lone match-up last season.

- Seton Hall went 18-35 overall last season, with a 7-13 record in BIG EAST play.
- Xavier is 13-15 all-time against the Pirates after going 1-2 in the series last season.

May 5-7
- Creighton went 31-18 last season, with a 15-5 record in BIG EAST play to earn the No. 2 seed in the BIG EAST Championship.
- The Bluejays won the opening game of the conference tournament against Xavier before falling to UConn and being eliminated by the Musketeers.
- Xavier is 16-18 all-time against the Bluejays after going 1-2 in the regular season series, and then 1-1 in BIG EAST Championship play last season, with the Musketeers taking a record-setting 27-8 win to advance to the championship series.
Queens, N.Y.
May 12-14
- St. John's went 22-32-1 overall last season, and 7-12-1 in BIG EAST play.
- Xavier is 15-15 all-time against the Red Storm after taking the three-game series sweep last season.
Cincinnati, Ohio (Hayden Field)
May 18-20
- The Hoyas went 32-24 last season with an 11-10 record in BIG EAST play, earning the No. 4 seed in the BIG EAST Tournament.
- GU was eliminated from the league tournament after falling to UConn and Xavier.
- Xavier is 19-8 all-time against the Hoyas after taking the regular season series 2-1, and topping Georgetown in the BIG EAST Championship.
