Molly McLaughlin Named to USC All-America Team

CINCINNATI - After leading Xavier to an NCAA Tournament berth for a second-straight season, Xavier women's soccer graduate student Molly McLaughlin earned a spot on the United Soccer Coaches All-America Third Team. Natalie Bain and Chloe Netzel also earned USC All-District Honors.
McLaughlin, a midfielder from Granger, Ind., led the Musketeers in points and goals for 2022, and helped the Xavier defense to 11 shutouts for the season. She wrapped up 2022 with a team-high 18 points on seven goals, also a team-high, as well as four assists. Among her seven goals were four PKs, as she went 4-4 on PKs for the season and 7-7 for her career.
Xavier earned the No. 2 seed in the BIG EAST Championship, with the Musketeers eventually earning an at-large bid to the NCAA Championship, picking up the program's second NCAA victory in overtime against Tennessee. McLaughlin's overtime goal in the NCAA Championship First Round win over Tennessee was her second NCAA Tournament goal of her career.
McLaughlin, who also earned USC All-East Region First Team for as second-straight season, was named the 2022 BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year and earned First Team All-BIG EAST following the season. She's also earned BIG EAST All-Tournament Team honors and CSC Scholar All-Region Team honors.
For her Xavier career, McLaughlin played in 90 matches, making 71 starts, collecting 41 points on 18 goals and five assists and helping Xavier to 45 shutouts in over 6,500 minutes of action.
Natalie Bain earned Second Team All-East Region honors following her freshman season. The defender from Alexandria, Ky., made all 23 starts in her rookie season, and played 2,085 minutes to lead all field players in 2022. Bain played the full time in 19 matches and played at leas 80 minutes in every game, helping limit opponents to just 12 goals during the regular season. The Musketeer defense finished with 11 shutouts on the season, which is tied for second most in a season in Xavier's record books.
Offensively, Bain collected six points, scoring two goals off of set pieces and dishing out an assist in BIG EAST play, and assisting on Chloe Netzel's game-winner in the NCAA Tournament match at Tennessee. Among her two goals was the game-winner at Butler.
Following the season, Bain earned a spot on both the All-BIG EAST Second Team and the the All-Freshman Team, as well as a spot on Top Drawer Soccer's Midseason Top 100 List.
Forward Chloe Netzel earned Third Team All-East Region Honors after scoring six goals, including a pair in the post-season, and dishing out an assist to finish the season with 13 points. Netzel's 13 points and six goals were second-most on the team, trailing only Molly McLaughlin.
Among her six goals were three game-winners, including the game-winner in overtime in the NCAA Championship First Round win over Tennessee, as well as the game-winners against Loyola and Bowling Green. Netzel also scored in the BIG EAST Championship Semifinal match, adding an insurance goal in the 99th minute of the 3-1 win over St. John's.
