
Musketeers End Non-Conference Action With Loss to Memphis

Mackayla Scarlett scored a game-high 18 points on Wednesday
CINCINNATI - Xavier women's basketball dropped its non-conference finale vs Memphis, 66-63, on Wednesday afternoon. The Musketeers fall to 7-5, while the Tigers improve to 8-5.
The back-and-forth game featured seven ties and 10 lead changes with neither team leading by more than six points. Xavier led by one point (61-60) with 53 seconds left in regulation before the Tigers closed the game on a 6-2 run to escape Cintas Center with the three-point victory (66-63). Memphis was 1-for-1 from the floor and 4-for-4 from the foul line in the final 47 seconds of the game.
• Mackayla Scarlett led three Musketeers in double figures with a game-high 18 points. The guard was 6-for-11 from the floor and 5-for-6 from the foul line. She added six rebounds, three assists, one block and one steal. Scarlett now has 20 career double-figure scoring games.
• Kaysia Woods added 13 points on 5-for-8 shooting with three 3-pointers. The guard added four rebounds, two assists and one block. She now has seven career games with 10 or more points.
• Courtney Prenger added 10 points on 5-for-9 shooting to go along with four rebounds, two assists and one block. Fernanda Ovalle finished with a game-high seven rebounds to go along with four points.
• Aanaya Harris added nine points and a game-high six assists. Taylor Smith finished with eight points, three rebounds and two assists.
• Xavier posted a .464 field-goal percentage (26-for-56) and went 4-for-15 from behind the arc. The Musketeers were also 7-for-14 from the foul line. Defensively, Xavier limited the Tigers to a .354 field-goal percentage (23-for-65). Xavier also won the battle on the glass, 42-36.
• Xavier scored one more point off of turnovers (13-12) and held a 40-24 advantage in points in the paint. Memphis scored two more second-chance points (10-8) and held a 26-9 advantage in bench points.
• The Musketeers return to BIG EAST action on Wednesday, Dec. 28 vs Butler. Tip-off is slated for 1 p.m. from Cintas Center.
