
Musketeers Drop BIG EAST Road Game at Georgetown

Xavier returns to action on Dec. 9 vs Cincinnati in the Skyline Chili Crosstown Shootout
WASHINGTON - Xavier women's basketball dropped a 74-52 BIG EAST road game at Georgetown on Sunday night at McDonough Arena. The Musketeers dropped to 6-3 (0-3 BIG EAST), while the Hoyas improved to 5-3 (1-1 BIG EAST).
Georgetown hit 64.7 percent (11-for-17) if its shot attempts in the opening quarter and scored 11 points off of turnovers, taking a 25-15 lead into the second frame. The Hoyas maintained their double-figure lead for the remainder of the half, taking a 38-25 advantage into halftime.
Xavier opened the second half on a 4-0 run to close within nine points (38-29), but the Hoyas responded with a 14-3 run to take their first 20-point lead of the game, 52-32, with 4:18 left in the third quarter. The Musketeers closed the quarter on a 10-0 run to close within 10 points (52-42).
Georgetown outscored Xavier, 22-10, in the final quarter to pull away for the 74-52 win.
• Kaysia Woods led three Musketeers in double figures with 11 points on 4-for-9 shooting. The sophomore guard made three 3-pointers to go along with three rebounds, one steal and one assist.
• Taylor Smith and Mackayla Scarlett each added 10 points. Smith added four rebounds, two assists and one steal, while Scarlett chipped in four assists and two rebounds.
• Shelby Calhoun posted a team-high five rebounds and five assists. The guard added one block and one point.
• Fernanda Ovalle finished with nine points on 4-for-8 shooting. The freshman guard added three rebounds, two assists and one block.
• Xavier finished the game with a .339 field-goal percentage (19-for-56) and was 9-for-21 from behind the arc and 5-for-10 from the foul line. Georgetown won the battle on the glass, 42-32.
• Georgetown forced 21 turnovers, converting the miscues into 22 points. Xavier held a 20-13 advantage in bench points, while the Hoyas scored 16 more points in the paint (32-16).
