Baseball Falls in Game One Against No. 14 Oregon State in Arizona

SURPRISE, Az. - Xavier baseball fell 13-3 to Oregon State in game one of the three game series, following a pair of big innings for the No. 14/12 Beavers in the Sanderson Ford College Classic at Surprise Stadium.
Oregon State took the early lead after hitting a first inning grand slam. The Musketeers cut it to a 4-1 Beaver advantage in the next half inning, after Andrew Walker reached on a throwing error and Jared Cushing drove him in on an RBI double. The Musketeers cut it back to 4-2 lead in the third when Jack Housinger led off the inning with a double, then came home on a Tyler DeMartino single to right field.
The Beavers responded with a five-run bottom of the frame to take a 9-2 lead into the fifth where Garrett Schultz doubled to lead off the inning and Jack Housinger hit an RBI double to center field to add a third run for the Musketeers. Oregon State scored a pair in the bottom of the frame to make it 11-3. The Beavers added runs in the sixth and seventh to set the final score at 13-3.
Xavier is back in action with Oregon State tomorrow in the second of three games, set for a 3:00 p.m. ET first pitch on FloSports.

- Jack Housinger went 3-of-5 at the plate, with two doubles, driving in an RBI and scoring a run.
- Garret Schultz went 2-of-2 with a walk, hitting one of Xavier's six doubles for the day. Schultz came around to score for the Musketeers as well.
- Jared Cushing (1-4) had a double, driving in an RBI. Tyler DeMartino (1-2) also drove in an RBI.
- Teddy Deters (1-2), Alex Helmin (1-3) and Lane Flamm (1-1) each had a hit, with Deters and Helmin both hitting a double.

- Trevor Olson went 2.1 innings in the start, allowing nine runs on eight hits and two walks with three strikeouts.
- Miles Halligan entered to pick up the final two outs of the third, going 2.2 innings, allowing two runs on four hits and a walk with two strikeouts.
- Dorsey Chatham entered for the sixth inning, going 2.0 innings, allowing two runs on two hits and three walks.
- Jack Lynch came in for the eighth, setting the batters down in order with just nine pitches.
