Men's Swimming Finishes Second, Women Finish Third at BIG EAST Championships

Musketeer men win six event championships at 2022 meet
EAST MEADOW, N.Y. – Xavier men's and women's swimming wrapped up the final day of the 2022 BIG EAST Championship on Saturday, with the Xavier men finishing second, while Xavier's women finished third.
On the women's s side, Kali Fischer started the day with a new school record in the 200 back, finishing fourth in the championship finals. Xavier used a strong showing in the 200 breast to move up to third, then closed out the meet with a silver medal in the 400 free relay for Clara Keiser, Alexis Worrall, Clare Bosse and Kali Fischer to secure third by 12 points over fourth-place Georgetown.
On the men's side, Andrew Martin led off the finals with a school-record and NCAA B-Cut time in the mile, finishing third with a time of 15:19.15. Nick Mahoney's fourth place finish in the 200 back led four Musketeers competing in finals heats but Georgetown took a narrow 591-590.5 lead after the event. Christian Thomas' second place finish led three Musketeers in Championship final of the 100 free, but the Hoyas extended the lead out to 9.5 points with a win in the event.Nathan Wall and Jon Bernard posting all-conference performances in the 200 breast, finishing second and third, and Will Serad coming in fourth and Cameron Weese eighth to bring the Musketeers within 0.5 of the Hoyas.
Xavier retook the lead following the 200 fly, with Jack Parker posting an All-BIG EAST performance after breaking the school record earlier in the day, finishing third. Caleb Petranchuk and Brett Wilson finished in the top six and Joey Mullen scored in the B-Final to put the Musketeers up 744.5-712 over the second place Hoyas with just men's three meter diving and the 400 free relay remaining, but with three divers in the final diving event, the Hoyas retook the lead on the Musketeers.
Andrew Martin, Ethan Wing, Ethan Saunders Christian Thomas won the 400 free relay, it wasn't enough to overcome Georgetown's lead, with the Musketeers finishing second by 9.5 points.

WOMEN'S NOTABLE |
- Emma Swabb led Xavier with a seventh place finish in the mile, finishing in 17:06.12. Tilly Baldwin collected a top-10 finish and Erin Ritz scored in 14th place.
- Kali Fischer set a school-record time of 1:57.72 in the prelims of the 200 back, finishing fourth in the Championships final.
- Emma Swabb placed eighth in the Championship Final of the 200 back, Hannah Pugh took the top spot in the B-Final and Brooke Atkins finished in 12th place. Reese Turner also scored in the Bonus Final.
- Clara Keiser finished fifth and Clare Bosse finished sixth to lead the Musketeers in the Championship final of the 100 free.
- Alexis Worrall and Molly Dynda scored in the B-Final and Erin Merke took the top spot in the C-Final of the 100 free.
- Kate Lair took part in the Championship final of the 200 breast, placing eighth with a time fo 2:21.56.
- Kelly Harris and Julianne Libler scored in the B-Final of the 200 breast, and Emily Guerrera and Maddie Agans took part in the C-Final as exhibition swimmers, with Guerrera touching the wall first in that heat.
- Sophia Romero's time of 2:05.07 led the Musketeers in the finals of the 200 fly, placing seventh.
- Emma Jury took the top spot in the B-Final of the 200 fly. Anna Baker and Anna Voelkerding took part in the Bonus Final as an exhibition.
- Xavier's women closed out the meet with a second place finish in the 400 free relay for Clara Keiser, Alexis Worrall, Clare Bosse and Kali Fischer with a time of 3:22.58.
- The Musketeers finished in third place with 1116 points, topping fourth-place Georgetown by 12 points.
