Musketeers Drop Regular-Season Finale vs Pirates

Kaysia Woods had 10 points and six rebounds on Tuesday
CINCINNATI - Xavier women's basketball dropped its regular-season finale on Tuesday afternoon, falling to Seton Hall, 74-53, at Cintas Center.
The Musketeers moved to 9-20 (4-16 BIG EAST), while the Pirates improved to 17-11 (12-8 BIG EAST).
• Seton Hall led by as many as six points (14-8) with 1:37 left in the first quarter before Xavier scored four unanswered points to close within two points (14-12). The Pirates hit a basket in the closing seconds of the frame to take a 16-12 advantage.
• Shaila Beeler had 10 of Xavier's 12 points in the first quarter, going 5-for-6 from the floor. The first quarter also had two ties.
• Seton Hall opened the second quarter on an 8-4 run, taking a 24-16 advantage and forcing a Xavier timeout. The Musketeers closed within seven points (30-23) on a Kaysia Woods three pointer with 4:37 on the clock. The Pirates closed the frame on a 9-3 run, taking a 39-26 advantage into the locker room.
• Shaila Beeler paced Xavier with 10 points at the break, while Aanaya Harris added six points. Seton Hall held a 17-14 advantage on the glass.
• Xavier closed within eight points three times in the third quarter and as late as the 3:42 mark (47-39), but the Pirates ended the frame on a 9-3 run - taking a 56-42 lead.
• Seton Hall scored six unanswered points to start the final quarter and outscored Xavier, 18-11, to pull away for the 74-53 win. The Pirates have now won nine of their last 10 games.
• Aanaya Harris scored nine of her team-high 15 points in the second half. Ayanna Townsend and Kaysia Woods each scored five points in the second half.
• Aanaya Harris led three Musketeers in double figures, scoring 15 points on 6-for-12 shooting. She added two rebounds and one steal.
• Shaila Beeler chipped in 14 points on 7-for-12 shooting to go along with four assists and one rebound. Kaysia Woods finished with 10 points and matched her season-high in rebounds with six.
• Ayanna Townsend had seven points and a team-high seven rebounds. She added two blocks, moving her career total to 79 blocks - ranking seventh all-time at Xavier.
• Seton Hall won the battle on the glass, 42-33, and scored eight more points off of turnovers (14-6). The Pirates also had 11 more second-chance points (17-8).
• Xavier was limited to a .375 field-goal percentage (21-for-56). The Musketeers were also 2-for-12 from behind the arc and 9-for-12 from the foul line.
• Xavier will be the No. 10 seed at the BIG EAST Tournament on March 4-7 at Mohegan Sun. The first round game vs No. 7 seed St. John's is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Friday.
