Musketeers Win Seventh of Last Eight
CINCINNATI, OH - The Musketeers bounced back nicely from the game last night to pick up a convincing 7-3 win at Hayden Field. Tyler DeMartino's grand slam and solo home runs led Xavier to even the series and move to 3-0 while playing on campus.
Starter Lane Flamm was locked in a duel early, and he went 4.1 innings and only gave up one earned run, but two unearned runs. Down 2-0, DeMartino stepped up with the bases loaded and muscled one over the wall to cash in four runs for the Musketeers. The lead would hold as Jack Lynch and Jared Gadd finished the game without allowing a run, and the Xavier offense continued to pile it on.
DeMartino homered again in the sixth, and Jared Cushing homered in the seventh. Back-to-back doubles in the eighth by Jack Housinger and Luke Franzoni gave Xavier their seventh run, a score that would hold to the game's conclusion.
The rubber match with Western Carolina is set to begin tomorrow at 1:00 pm ET from Hayden Field.
