Senior infielder led Musketeers with seven hits last week, including 17th homer of the season
NEW YORK - Following a seven-hit week, including a record-breaking home run, Xavier first baseman Luke Franzoni was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, the league announced on Monday.
Franzoni, a senior from Robbinsville, N.J., batted a team-best .538 (7-13) in four games last week as the Musketeers took on No. 1 Tennessee and faced Creighton for a three game series. Franzoni also led the Musketeers with five walks and had a team-best .667 on-base percentage.
Franzoni recorded a hit in each of Xavier's four games last week, including going 3-of-3 with two walks in Saturday's game against Creighton, and 2-of-3, with two walks, in Sunday's finale. Both of his hits in Sunday's eventual 9-3 win for the Musketeers went for extra bases, including his 17th homer of season, a new Xavier single-season record.
This is Franzoni's second Weekly Honor Roll nod of the season.
