CINCINNATI --- Xavier University Head Coach Sean Miller announced today that he has received a signed athletics financial aid agreement from graduate transfer Souley Boum, a 6-3 guard who ranked second in Conference USA and 23rd nationally in scoring this past season at 19.9 ppg. at UTEP.
"Souley is a talented player," said Miller. "His unique ability to score and make his teammates better, coupled with his excellent quickness defensively, allows him to be a great fit for our program. His production and experience in his college career has been outstanding. Souley graduated this spring from UTEP and will have one season with us. We are excited and looking forward to coaching him in the season ahead."
In addition to his scoring, Boum added 4.5 rebounds per game (third on team) and 2.9 assists per game (second on team). His 1.8 steals per game ranked second on the team and fourth in C-USA. He ranked sixth in C-USA in free-throw shooting at 84.7 percent.
Boum earned numerous honors this year after leading the Miners to a 20-14 record, including 2022 District 11 NABC Second Team for the second year in a row and a spot on the 2022 All-Conference USA Second Team. He was a 2021 Conference USA Third Team selection after finishing third in C-USA in scoring at 18.8 ppg.
Boum played the last three seasons at UTEP, sitting out the 2018-19 season after transferring from San Francisco where he earned 2018 West Coast Conference All-Freshman team honors after scoring 10.9 ppg. He played his prep basketball at Oakland Tech High School in Oakland, Calif.
