Jared Gadd earns spot on the Weekly Honor Roll
NEW YORK - After batting .900 in the DH spot for two of Xavier's three games last week, senior Jeff Holtz was named the BIG EAST Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday. Junior RHP Jared Gadd also earned a spot on the conference's Weekly Honor Roll.
Holtz, originally from Hartland, Wisc., was designated hitter in games two and three of Xavier's three-game sweep of Butler last week. The senior batted .900 (9-of-10) with four hits for extra bases, driving in a team-high six RBIs for the week. Holtz also led the Musketeers in slugging percentage (1.700) and on-base percentage (.909) for the week.
In game two of Saturday's doubleheader, Holtz went 5-of-5 with a walk. Three of those hits were for extra bases, including a pair of home runs, driving in four RBIs as Xavier took the 19-8 win. In the series finale, Holtz went 4-of-5 at the plate, collecting two RBIs and scoring a run in the 11-2 win to complete the sweep of the Bulldogs.
Righty Jared Gadd made his first start on the mound as a Musketeer on Sunday, going a career-long 5.0 innings in the eventual 11-2 win over the Bulldogs. Gadd, who is originally from Lexington, Ky., allowed just one run on four hits and a walk, striking out a pair along the way. He posted an ERA of 1.80 for the outing and picked up the win, his fifth of the season, to earn a spot on the Weekly Honor Roll.
