CINCINNATI - Xavier head women's basketball coach Melanie Moore has announced the promotion of Molly Bateman to recruiting coordinator.
"Candice Finley has done a phenomenal job leading our recruiting efforts that past three years!" said Moore. "As our associate head coach, she has other leading roles so it is a good time for this transition to Molly as our recruiting coordinator.
"Molly is an excellent recruiter and builder of relationships with prospective student-athletes, AAU coaches and high school coaches around the country. She will help keep us organized so we will continue to bring the best to Xavier."
Bateman joined the staff as assistant athletic director for women's basketball in August of 2020 before being promoted to assistant coach in 2021.
Xavier finished the 2021-22 season with a .746 free-throw percentage, ranking third in single-season program history. The Musketeers also finished the year with 89 blocks to rank ninth in single-season program history.
Individually, Ayanna Townsend finished her career with 80 blocks to rank seventh all-time in program history. She was also tabbed the 2021-22 BIG EAST Women's Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, becoming the first Musketeer to earn the academic honors.
Bateman served as an assistant coach at Detroit Mercy from 2015-20 before adding the title of recruiting coordinator for her last two seasons on the bench. She assisted in coaching five players to all-conference honors and helped the program establish two single-season school records. Bateman also helped the team advance to the Horizon League Championships game in 2017 before falling to nationally ranked Green Bay.
In March of 2019, Bateman was recognized as one of the top-30 up-and-coming women's basketball coaches nationally with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Thirty Under 30.
