CINCINNATI - Xavier head women's basketball coach Melanie Moore has announced the hiring of Sierra Girton as head strength and conditioning coach for women's basketball. Girton becomes the first full-time strength and conditioning coach dedicated to just the women's basketball program.
"This is a huge day for our program and speaks to the commitment our administration has for women's basketball!" said Moore. "Sierra is the first head strength and conditioning coach for women's basketball and has already made a significant impact on our players. She has high-level experience and understands our sport to help grow our student-athletes in the weight room. I am thrilled to have her on my staff and in our Xavier Family!"
Girton joins the Musketeers from Oakland University where she served as the director of women's basketball sports performance since 2021. She also served as director of basketball operations for the Golden Grizzlies.
Prior to Oakland, she served as assistant strength and conditioning coach at Georgia Southern from 2020-21. She also worked as a strength and conditioning intern at Purdue (2019-20) and Kentucky (2019).
Girton holds two bachelor's degrees from Purdue. She earned a degree in movement and sports science in 2016 and a degree in dietetics/nutrition, fitness and health in 2020. She also holds a master's degree in sports sciences and rehabilitation from Logan University ('19).
