Xavier opens conference play with a sweep of Villanova at home

CINCINNATI - In the BIG EAST conference opening game Xavier swept Villanova in a three set victory (25-19, 25-21, 25-19). This is the second match of the season for the Musketeers that was won in three sets. Xavier moves to 8-3 record while Villanova falls to 4-9. The Musketeers lengthen the lead to 10-8 in the series history with the Wildcats.

NOTABLES

• Junior middle blocker Delaney Hogan led the squad with 11 kills along with tallying up an assist and a block assist.

• Carrigan O'Reilly added an additional 38 assists to bring her career total to 2,537. The senior also posted seven kills, seven digs, and one block assist. At .545 hitting percentage, the setter also managed seven kills off of 11 total attempts to have the highest hitting percentage of the squad so far this season.

• Both Angel Robinson and Brooklyn Cink each added two block solos to their career total. Robinson, the graduate middle blocker, added five kills to the squad total while Cink, the graduate outside hitter, added seven kills and nine digs.

• Cink, sophomore libero Lucia Corsaro, and junior defensive specialist Stevie Wolf all recorded service aces for the squad and Wolf tallied up the team high of two.

• Corsaro also recorded the team high of 12 digs in the match with Wolf following close behind with 11.

• Senior outside hitter Maryann O'Toole was one of two members of the squad to reach double-digit kills with 10 in the match.
