Blue Demons Upend Musketeers on Saturday Afternoon

Mackayla Scarlett had 10 points, four assists and two rebounds vs DePaul
CINCINNATI - DePaul women's basketball hit a season-high 14 three pointers on Saturday, defeating Xavier, 91-56, at Cintas Center. The Musketeers dropped to 7-11 (0-9 BIG EAST), while the Blue Demons improved to 11-7 (4-3 BIG EAST).
The Blue Demons outscored Xavier, 27-11, in the first quarter to build a lead they would never relinquish. DePaul led by as many as 42 points (89-47) with 3:41 left in regulation as the Blue Demons finished the contest with a .567 field-goal percentage (34-for-60). The 14 three pointers are tied for the second most in a game by a BIG EAST team this season.
• Mackayla Scarlett posted 10 points and a team-high four assists. The guard added two rebounds and was 3-for-4 from the foul line. She now has a team-leading 24 games in double figures.
• Fernanda Ovalle added 10 points and five rebounds. The freshman guard added two steals and one assist. She now has six games with 10 or more points.
• Nila Blackford chipped in a team-high seven rebounds to go along with seven points. The forward also had three steals, two assists and two blocks. Aanaya Harris finished with nine points, while Kaleigh Addie added six points.
• Xavier had 10 steals, the team's sixth game of the season with 10 or more steals. The Musketeers also forced 21 turnovers, the second most turnovers in a game this season for DePaul.
• Xavier finished the game with a .323 field-goal percentage (20-for-62) and went 5-for-21 from behind the arc. The Musketeers were also 11-for-17 from the foul line.
• DePaul held a 21-18 advantage points off of turnovers and scored six more second-chance points (14-8). The Blue Demons also scored two more points in the paint (30-28) and four more fastbreak points (10-6). Xavier held a 23-22 advantage in bench points.
• The Musketeers return to action on Tuesday, Jan. 17 at Villanova. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. from Finneran Pavilion.
