Jonny Mennell Named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week

NEW YORK - Jonny Mennell was named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week on Tuesday afternoon. The redshirt-freshman goalkeeper earns the honors for the first time this season.

Mennell led Xavier to a 4-0 win at UConn on Oct. 28 as the Musketeers captured the Midwest Division and earned the No. 2 seed in the BIG EAST Tournament. He made two saves and logged 90 minutes between the pipes. Mennell also posted his sixth shutout of the season.

The Asheville, N.C., native now ranks second in the BIG EAST in goals against average (0.94) and saves percentage (.754). He also ranks tied for second in shutouts (6).

Mennell and the Musketeers play host to No. 13 Akron the first round of the BIG EAST Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 4. First touch is set for 7 p.m. from Corcoran Field.
