Boum, Jones Lead Musketeers to 94-89 Road Win at No. 20 Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Souley Boum and Colby Jones combined for 62 points and 16 rebounds on Wednesday night, leading No. 19 Xavier to 94-89 road win at No. 20 Providence. Xavier improves to 22-8 (14-5 BIG EAST), while the Friars drop to 21-9 (13-6 BIG EAST).
Xavier led from start to finish and had its largest lead of the game, 40-18, with 6:01 left in the first half. Providence ended the half on an 18-5 run to close within nine points (45-36).
The Friars closed within two points (55-53) with 15:18 left in the second half, but Xavier responded with a 22-11 run on 9-for-11 shooting - taking a 13-point lead (77-64). The Musketeers led by as many as 12 points (92-80) with 1:31 left in regulation before the Friars closed the game on a 9-4 run to make the final ledger, 94-89.

- Souley Boum scored a season-high 33 points on 11-for-19 shooting with four 3-pointers. He added seven rebounds and four assists. The senior guard was one point shy of tying his career high in scoring (34 points vs Sul Ross St. on Dec. 5, 2020). His 19 points in the first half were the most for a Xavier player this season.
- Colby Jones scored a career-high 29 points on 10-for-11 shooting. The junior guard scored 22 points in the second half, the most points in a half by a Xaviere player this year. Jones pulled down nine rebounds and dished out four assists. He now has seven 20-point games this season.
- Desmond Claude scored a season-high 12 points on 5-for-9 shooting. The freshman guard added two rebounds and one block.
- Jack Nunge added nine points and eight rebounds. Jerome Hunter chipped in seven points and three rebounds.
- The 94 points are the sixth most points in a game for Xavier this season. The Musketeers have scored 90 or more points in a game nine times this season.
- Xavier finished the game with a .557 field-goal percentage (34-for-61) and went 10-for-20 from behind the arc. The Musketeers were also 16-for-20 from the foul line. Xavier has posted a .500 field-goal percentage or better 16 times this season.
- Xavier handed Providence its first home loss of the season (entered the game 15-0). It was only the second loss for the Friars in their last 38 home contests.
