Xavier took the lead in the third, with Grant Stephenson leading off the inning with a single, stealing second and moving to third on an error. Jack Housinger hit the ball to deep center field, reaching on an error and allowing Stephenson to score to put Xavier up 1-0. Matthew DePrey followed with a home run to left center, a two-run shot, to make it a 3-0 Xavier lead.
Georgetown scored a pair of runs in the fourth, but the Musketeers added a run back in the bottom of the inning after Teddy Deters singled, moved to third after Stephenson was hit-by-pitch, and a walk for Jack Housinger before scoring on a sac fly from Matthew DePrey to extend Xavier's lead to 4-2.
Xavier's two-run lead held in the sixth, where three Hoya runs scored to give Georgetown its first lead of the day. Xavier responded in the bottom of the frame, with Grant Stephenson hitting a single, then scoring on a Matthew DePrey single to tie it up, 5-5.
The Hoyas scored the go-ahead run in the seventh, leading 6-5. Xavier would threaten late, loading the bases in ninth, but were unable to get the tying run across.
