CINCINNATI --- The BIG EAST and Big Ten Conferences have announced the matchups for the eighth Gavitt Tipoff Games set for November 13-17. All eight games will be televised on FS1. Xavier will play at Purdue on Monday, Nov. 13.
Xavier is 3-2 in the Gavitt Tipoff Games, the annual challenge between the Big Ten and the BIG EAST. XU, which lost 81-79 to No. 12 Indiana last season at Cintas Center (11-18-22), has a 2-0 record in Gavitt Tipoff Games matchups on the road. Xavier picked up an 80-70 win at Wisconsin in the 2017-18 season (11-16-17)Â and won at No. 24 Michigan in Ann Arbor 86-70 in the 2015-16 season (11-20-15).
Â
Xavier and Purdue have not met on the court since XU recorded a 63-57 win in West Lafayette, Ind., in the 2012-13 season (12-1-12). Purdue leads the series 9-6, although Xavier has won the last five meetings between the two schools dating back to the 2002-03 season. That five-game XU winning streak includes an 85-78 win over the Boilermakers in the 2008 NCAA Tournament Second Round. XU advanced to the 2008 Elite Eight. Head Coach Sean Miller was on the XU sideline for the first three wins in that streak, including once as the associate head coach (2002-03) and twice as the head coach (2005-06 and 2007-08).
Â
Despite last season's two-point loss to Indiana, Xavier has won 12 of its last 16 games against nine different teams from the Big Ten Conference since the 2007-08 season, including 4-1 in NCAA Tournament action. Xavier's 16 games and 12-4 record vs. the Big Ten since 2007-08 have been played against Illinois (1-0), Indiana (1-1), Iowa (1-1), Maryland (1-0), Michigan (1-0), Minnesota (1-0), Ohio State (1-0), Purdue (3-0) and Wisconsin (2-2).
