Alazaus earns First Team honors, Loer picks up Second Team honors in the East Region
GREENSBORO, N.C. - After helping Xavier to the NCAA Tournament Regional Final and a school-record matching 39 wins, a pair of Musketeers, Brant Alazaus and Justin Loer, were named to the 2023 ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Team for the East Region. The eight regional teams are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Div. I All-America Committee.

Brant Alazaus earned All-Region First Team honors after making 17 starts with an ERA of 3.89 though 106.1 innings pitched, finishing the season with nine wins. The lefty led the team with 102 strikeouts, while issuing just eight walks for the season.

Alazaus, a graduate student from Alliance, Ohio, finished second in the country in walks allowed per nine innings (0.68) and strikeout-to-walk ratio (12.75), and was No. 5 in the country WHIP (0.93) following the conference tournaments.

Justin Loer earned a spot on the All-Region Second Team as a relief pitcher. The sophomore lefty made 29 appearances for the Musketeers, including one start, finishing with a 1.89 ERA through 57.0 innings pitched, best ERA among Xavier's pitchers with at least 10 innings pitched.

Loer, originally from Lakeville, Minn., finished the season with 63 strikeouts, limited opposing batters to a .182 average at the plate, and earned a record of 6-3 with seven saves.
First Team All-Region selections are nominated for ABCA/Rawlings All-America honors. The ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. I All-America teams will be announced the morning of Friday, June 16 prior to the start of the 2023 NCAA Div. I College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska.

The finalists for the ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. I Gold Glove team will be announced via Twitter by Rawlings Sporting Goods (@RawlingsSports) on Tuesday, June 20. The Gold Glove winners in all divisions will be announced on Wednesday, June 21.

In all divisions, the ABCA/Rawlings National Pitchers and Position Players of the Year will be announced on Monday, June 26.

The ABCA All-America team was first recognized in 1949 and now includes nine divisions: NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA Divisions I, II and III, Pacific Association Division, and high school. ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove teams were first recognized in 2007.

Its over 15,000 members represent all 50 states and 40 countries. Since its initial meeting of 27 college baseball coaches in June 1945, Association membership has broadened to include nine divisions: NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA, Pacific Association Division, High School, Youth and Travel.
