Madison Ayson scores game-winner as Musketeers give Wildcats first loss of the season
CINCINNATIÂ - Xavier women's soccer picked up a 1-0 win over Villanova on Thursday evening at Corcoran Field to remain unbeaten in BIG EAST play. Xavier moved to 2-0-1 in conference action and 9-2-1 overall with the win, giving Villanova its first loss of the season.
The Musketeers held a 7-2 advantage on shots in the first 45 minutes, but the game went into halftime scoreless. Xavier broke the tie in the 59th minute, with Madison Ayson scoring from in front of the goal off a pass from Kennedy Clark to give Xavier the 1-0 lead.
The Musketeer defense only allowed the Wildcats three shots in the second half, with just one look on-goal. Goalkeeper Maria Galley made the fingertip save on the look on-frame in the final minutes to keep Villanova off the board, setting the final score at 1-0 in favor of the Musketeers.
Xavier heads back out on the road this weekend, traveling to Seton Hall on Sunday, Oct. 1. The Pirates and the Musketeers will get underway at 1:00 p.m. on FloSports.
