
Elin Hansson, Ella Garner Join Women’s Soccer Program

Sophomore forward, freshman defender come to Xavier from Lenoir-Rhyne
CINCINNATI – Xavier women's soccer head coach Dean Ward announced the addition of two transfers, Elin Hansson and Ella Garner, from Lenoir-Rhyne. Hansson just completed her second season with the Bears in 2023, while Garner recently wrapped up her freshman year.
Hansson, a forward originally from Halmstad, Sweden, was a two-time South Atlantic Offensive Player of the Year at Lenoir-Rhyne, collecting 69 points on 26 goals and 17 assists in two seasons with the Bears.
Hansson finished her sophomore season in 2023 with 16 goals and 12 assists for 44 points in 22 matches played, earning a First Team All-SAC and a second SAC Offensive Player of the Year nod for her collegiate career. The Bears won the SAC Regular Season and Tournament Championships and advanced to the NCAA Southeast Regional Championship.
Following the 2023 season, she was named the D2CCA Southeast Region Player of the Year and earned First Team All-American as well as CSC First Team Academic All-American honors.
Hansson's stellar sophomore season followed a freshman campaign where she collected 25 points on 10 goals and five assists in 17 matches played for a squad that claimed the SAC Regular Season Title. Following her rookie year, she was named the SAC Offensive Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year, earning a spot on the league's First Team.
Garner, a defender from Martinsburg, Pa., comes to Xavier after a freshman season where she collected eight points on four goals, starting in 20 matches for the Bears. Garner helped the Bears to a SAC Regular Season and Tournament Championships, and a run to the NCAA Southeast Regional Championship.
In the Regional Championship match against Florida Tech, Garner scored two goals for the Bears as LR scored four answered to tie the match at 4-4, falling 5-4 on a Florida Tech goal in the final five minutes of the match.
Garner wrapped up her rookie season with selections to the All-SAC First Team and the D2CCA All-Southeast Region First Team.
