Women's Soccer Falls to UConn, Finish Runners-Up at BIG EAST Championships

Musketeers await NCAA Championship Selection show on Monday at 4 PM
BOYDS, Md. - Xavier women's soccer finished runners-up at the 2024 BIG EAST Championship after falling 2-1 to UConn in double overtime in the Championship match at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Boyds, Md. on Sunday. The Musketeers moved to 15-4-2 on the season.
Xavier took had a 12-1 advantage on shots in the first half, including a 6-0 advantage on shots on-goal, breaking through in the 21st minute when Regan Dancer set up Samantha Wiehe for her 10th goal of the season, giving the Musketeers the 1-0 advantage going into the half.
Shortly after the half, UConn scored to tie the match at 1-1, and the draw held through the end of regulation. Each team had a pair of shots in the first overtime, but were unable to break the tie, sending the match to a second-overtime. In the second OT, each team had one look going into the final two minutes of the match, before UConn found the back of the net in the 109th minute for the golden goal, taking the 2-1 win.
Following the match, three Musketeers, Natalie Bain, Zoé Van de Cloot and Samantha Wiehe, were named to the BIG EAST All-Tournament Team.
The Musketeers now await the 2024 NCAA Championship selection show, which is set for Monday, Nov. 11 at 4:00 p.m. on NCAA.com.
