
Musketeers Drop Senior Day Contest vs Hoyas

Georgetown defeated Xavier, 66-46, on Saturday at Cintas Center
CINCINNATI - Nila Blackford posted her second double-double of the season on Saturday, scoring a team-high 16 points and grabbing a game-high 10 rebounds as the Musketeers dropped a 66-46 contest vs Georgetown on Senior Day.
The Musketeers moved to 1-26 (0-18 BIG EAST) on the year, while the Hoyas improved to 19-10 (9-9 BIG EAST).
The Hoyas jumped out to early lead, outscoring the Musketeers by 13 points (24-11) in the first quarter behind a .529 field-goal percentage (9-for-17). Xavier battled back to get within five points twice in the second quarter. The Musketeers outscored Georgetown, 18-13, in the second quarter on 7-for-14 shooting - making the score 37-29 at the break.
Xavier again closed within five points (39-34) with 8:01 on the clock in the third quarter, but the Hoyas closed the frame on a 10-4 run - taking a double-figure lead (49-38) they would not relinquish. Georgetown outscored Xavier, 17-8, in the final quarter to pull away for its third straight win.
• Nila Blackford scored a team-high 16 points on 7-for- 10 shooting. She also pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds as the forward posted her second double-double of the season and the 27th of her career. The Louisville, Ky., native now has 63 career double-figure scoring games and 35 career double-rebounding games. Blackford now has 992 career rebounds.
• Aizhanique Mayo scored 10 points on 4-for-10 shooting in 21 minutes of action off the bench. She added three rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal. The freshman guard has scored in double figures nine times this season.
• Mackayla Scarlett chipped in seven points, a team-high four assists and three rebounds. Tae'lor Purvis added five points, while Aanaya Harris posted four rebounds and three points.
• Xavier posted a .333 field-goal percentage (17-for-51) and went 5-for-17 from behind the arc. The Musketeers were also 7-for-11 from the foul line.
• Georgetown won the battle on the glass, 37-30, and scored 20 more points off of turnovers (25-5). The Hoyas also scored 10 more points in the paint (28-18) and held a 12-6 advantage in second-chance points.
• Xavier posted a season-high six blocks, paced by Nila Blackford's career-high four blocks.
• Georgetown finished the game with a season-high 10 three pointers made. The Hoyas went 10-for-19 from behind the arc.
• Xavier will be the No. 11 seed in the upcoming BIG EAST Tournament. The Musketeers will take on the No. 6 seed at 4 p.m. on Friday, March 8 from Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn.
