CINCINNATI - Xavier head women's basketball coach Billi Chambers announced the addition of Irune Orio to the 2024-25 roster on Monday.
"Irune is a special talent that is just beginning to scratch the surface of her potential," said Chambers. "As a 6-foot-2 guard, she will bring us versatility in our offensive style of play, length defensively and a tough competitive mindset. We are excited with what the future has in store with her as an addition to our program."
Orio joins the Musketeers from Sacramento State where she played in 35 games with 28 starts from 2022-24. The guard averaged 9.4 points and 3.8 rebounds per game during the 2023-24 season. She added 37 assists, 28 steals and 16 blocks.
The Balmaseda, Euskadi, Spain, native ranked third on the team in field-goal percentage (.419) and three-pointers made (36) last season. Orio scored in double figures 14 times, including five straight games to end the season.
In 2022-23, she helped the Hornets post a 25-8 (13-5 Big Sky) record. Sacramento State captured its first conference tournament title in program history and advanced to the NCAA Tournament – also a program first.
Prior to Sacramento State, Orio played for Spain at the 2022 FIBA U18 Women's European Championship in Greece. She was also a member of Spain's U14 Women's National Team, guiding the team to a Basque League Championship.
