Swimming Heads to Miami (Ohio) and Butler for Final Meets Before BIG EAST

Musketeers face RedHawks in dual on Saturday, take part in Butler Invite on Sunday
CINCINNATI - Xavier men's and women's swimming will take part in the final two meets ahead of the 2025 BIG EAST Championships this weekend, taking on Miami on Saturday, Jan. 25 the taking part in the Butler Invite on Sunday, Jan. 26.

MIAMI (OHIO)
- Events with the RedHawks get underway at 1:00 p.m. at Miami's Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center.
- Miami's men are coming off a first-place finish at the MAC Championships.
- The RedHawk women placed second at last season's conference championships meet.
- At last season's dual meet, Xavier collected four first place finishes but fell to the RedHawks on both sides.
BUTLER INVITE
- The Musketeers will face BGSU, Eastern Ill., Lewis, Southern Indiana, UIndy, Valpo and Butler starting at noon at Fishers High School in Fishers, Ind.
- Last season, Xavier's squads combined to collect six wins at the Butler Invite, facing off with UIndy, Valpo, Lewis, EIU and Ball State, as well as Butler on the women's side.
- The Musketeer women won the meet, taking the top spot out of seven teams. Xavier's men finished third out of six squads.
BIG EAST CHAMPIONSHIP
- The 2025 BIG EAST Swimming and Diving Championships have been moved up to start on Monday, February 24, 2025Â and run through Thursday, February 27.
- The championship meet will be held at the SPIRE Academy in Geneva, Ohio, just outside of Cleveland, for the first time since 2021.
- At last year's BIG EAST Championships, the Musketeer women collected a program-best five gold medals and set new program records nine events on the way to a fourth-place finish.
- Xavier returns six of the nine Musketeers that earned All-BIG EAST last season.Â
- Olivia Oyster led the Musketeers with all-conference performances in five events in 2023-24, including posting an NCAA B-Cut time in the 50 free.
- Jordyn Libler and Erin Ritz each earned All-BIG EAST and each set a pair of NCAA B-Cut times at the event as well.
- All-BIG EAST honorees Norah Simich, Reese Turner, Alexis Worrall also return this season.
- Xavier collected 10 gold medals at last season's BIG EAST Championships including going 5-for-5 on first place finishes in relays, finishing runners-up in the team standings.
- Eight of the 10 Musketeers who earned All-BIG EAST last season return for Xavier.Â
- Ethan Saunders earned the honor in six events to lead the Musketeers.
- Returner Aiden Leamer also earned all-conference in multiple events and set an NCAA B-Cut time in the 200 fly.
- All-BIG EAST honorees Matthew Adanin, Gage Hannewyk, Kyle Hudson, Ryan Knipp, Luke Peterson and Nathan Wall also return for the Musketeers.
WEEKLY AWARDS
- Xavier swept the BIG EAST Swimming and Diving Athletes of the Week, with Olivia Oyster picking up the honor on the women's side and Aiden Leamer earning the honor on the men's side.
- Oyster, a junior from Delaware, Ohio, collected five event wins through Xavier's meets at Cincinnati and Bellarmine over the weekend. Oyster won the 50 free, setting a time of 22.97 and came back with a time of 50.53 in the 100 free to sweep the freestyle sprints against UC. She also helped Xavier to a second place finish in the 200 free relay. At Bellarmine with NKU, Oyster collected another first-place finish in the 100 free with a time of 50.92. She also placed second in the 200 free with a time of 1:53.61. Oyster also helped Xavier's A-Team take first in the 200 free relay and 200 medley relay.
- Leamer, a junior from Mason, Ohio, collected four event wins and four second-place finishes over the weekend. Against Cincinnati, Leamer won the 100 fly, finishing in a time of 49.60. He also placed second in the 50 free, setting a time of 21.45. Leamer helped Xavier relays to a pair of second place finishes against the Bearcats as well. At Bellarmine with NKU, Leamer took the top spot in the 200 fly, finishing in a time of 1:49.14 and won the 100 fly with a time of 50.00. Leamer also swam both relays as part of the A-Team, helping Xavier take first in the 200 free relay and second in the 200 medley relay.
- This is the second weekly honor of the season for Oyster and Leamer.
LAST TIME OUT - WOMEN
- Xavier's women won nine of 14 events at Bellarmine with NKU, going 2-0 in the team results.
- Reese Turner, Jordyn Libler, Erin Ritz and Olivia Oyster opened up the meet with a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay, setting a time of 1:45.83. Xavier's B-Squad of Abby Bocian, Karlie Dodd, Norah Simich and Alexis Worrall placed second.
- Mary Sweetman set a time of 10:55.22 to place second in the 1000 free.
- Alexis Worrall led three Musketeers in the top three of the 200 free, finishing in 1:53.25. Olivia Oyster placed second and Norah Simich finished third.
- Molly Dynda finished the 100 breast in a time of 1:07.81, tying for second.
- Ava Tenhundfeld won the 200 fly with a time of 2:10.54. She also placed first in the 400 IM with a time of 4:39.27 while Teegan Madara placed second.
- Reese Turner took first in the 50 free with a time of 24.90. Norah Simich placed third.
- Olivia Oyster placed first in the 100 free with a time of 50.92. Alexis Worrall, Reese Turner and Molly Dynda followed her in, with the Musketeers taking the top four spots.
- Amy Van Son's time of 2:09.39 led the Musketeers in the 200 back, placing second.
- Jordyn Libler took first in the 200 breast with a time of 2:18.90.
- Abby Bocian won the 500 free, finishing in a time of 5:10.09. She also led Xavier in the 100 back, placing second with a time of 58.71.
- Maggie O'Toole set a time of 1:00.99 in the 100 fly to place third.
- Xavier wrapped up the meet by taking the top two spots in the 200 free relay, with Olivia Oyster, Molly Dynda, Reese Turner and Alexis Worrall taking first with a time of 1:35.51. Erin Ritz, Maddy Lathrop, Mary Sweetman and Norah Simich placed second.
LAST TIME OUT - MEN
- The Musketeers won seven of 14 events on the men's side at Bellarmine with NKU, topping the Norse but falling narrowly to the Knights, 131-130.
- Gage Hannewyk, Ethan Saunders, Aiden Leamer and Kyle Hudson placed second in the 200 medley relay, finishing in a time of 1:33.47. Matt Fralic, Brandon Malicki, Caleb Petranchuk and Matthew Adanin finished third.
- Owen Schwebach set a time of 9:52.29 in the 1000 free, placing second.
- Luke Peterson led Xavier in the 200 free, placing second with a time of 1:44.80.
- Matt Fralic won the 100 back in a time of 51.20.
- Brandon Malicki placed first in the 100 breast, finishing in a time of 57.50.
- Aiden Leamer took the top spot in the 200 fly, finishing in a time of 1:49.14. Leamer also won the 100 fly with a time of 50.00. Owen Schwebach placed third.
- Gage Hannewyk placed second in the 50 free with a time of 21.33. Kyle Hudson placed third.
- Hannewyk and Hudson both finished the 100 free in 47.39 to tie for second.
- Nate Finnegan placed second in the 200 back with a time of 1:56.45.
- Nathan Wall won the 400 IM with a time of 4:07.55. He set a time of 2:11.07 to place second in the 200 breast.
- Ryan Knipp placed first in the 500 free with a time of 4:44.67.
- Ethan Saunders, Kyle Hudson, Aiden Leamer and Gage Hannewyk finished first in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:24.27. Colin Jordan, Matthew Adanin, Caleb Petranchuk and Matt Fralic placed third.
