
Xavier Set to Celebrate 25th Anniversary of 2000 Atlantic 10 Champions

CINCINNATI - Xavier Athletics is set to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the 1999-00 Atlantic 10 Championship Team. The women's basketball team will recognize the squad on Wednesday, Feb. 5 at Cintas Center at halftime of the game vs Georgetown at 7 p.m.
Under the direction of head coach Melanie Balcomb, the team posted a 26-5 overall record with a 13-3 mark in A-10 action. The Musketeers won the A-10 Tournament with an 80-66 win over No. 1 seed George Washington, punching their ticket to the NCAA Tournament for the second straight season. The A-10 Championship was the first in program history.
The team featured four future Xavier Athletics Hall of Fame members: Nicole Levandusky, Jennifer Phillips, Reetta Piipari and Taru Tuukkanen.
Levandusky was also named the A-10 Tournament MVP, while Tuukkanen earned all-tournament team honors.
Levandusky and Tuukkanen were both name to the All-Atlantic 10 First Team, while Phillips was tabbed to the second team. Amy Waugh was also named the A-10 Rookie of the Year.
Kim Hotz and Jennifer Parr served as co-captains for the team.
